St Barth Film Festival

Since 1996 Forum Friends Rosemond and Ellen Greaux have organized the annual St. Barth Film Festival, a major cultural event on the island we all love. Dedicated to Caribbean Cinema, the festival shows up to a dozen films in each year (in late April) at the outdoor cinema at AJOE in Lorient, at the port or museum in Gustavia, and on the beach in Flamands. All of the films are in French or have French sub-titles so that they are accessible to the island audience. The video screenings are free to the public in order to attract the largest audience possible and best promote Caribbean cinema. The festival also produces a film-in-the-schools program, taking the filmmkaers to the island schools to explain their profession and show their work to the students....

All of the people involved in the organization of the St. Barth Film Festival are volunteers, and come from as far away as New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Guadelope, to make the festival possible. Your help will support their efforts. Be a Friend, a VIP, a Patron, or a Producer and be part of the cultural life of St. Barth!

One of the most interesting events held on this island, the films are very good, I will never forget one of the cuban films, with the fifties cars, so cool. One film that was shown on flamands beach , Playing for Change was an american film with great music played in sync with different musicians from around the world. If you are on island during this year's festival, try and see at least one film, watching a film, sitting in chairs at l'ajoe under the stars, a very pleasant experience.

and I should offer a very special thanks to Didier/Diana who is one of our best supporters on the island, her help is absolutely essential, from putting up posters to deliveries, etc.. making it all happen!

I don't know, guys...... The posting date has me skeptical. So I think I'll give Ellen my donation directly. LOL :)

Fantastic painting, RickyG !!! LOL ;-)

Has anyone seen the poster ( as in window poster, flyer) for the event? I would like to score one...

I've got you covered. The posters are typically for sale at the Tourism Office by the quai, and I'll be on-island at that time.

. . . as most of you know, my French is weak, at best. Can someone give me a synopsis of the above article -- is there a theme this year, for example (apart from the Festival's spotlight on Caribbean subjects & film professionals)?

bravo Terrence, and many thanks to all the forum folks who have donated... your shirts and hats will be on the way as soon as we get them!
