Le Village poised to change hands?

SBH Insider
Le Village Hotel, where we’ve stayed for each of our trips over the past two decades, appears poised to change hands based on some conversations we had with staff there this week.

This would be incredibly unfortunate, since we’ve come to love the property, location, very reasonable rates, and the lovely rapport we’ve built with the team there over the years.

From what I know of the hotel’s history, it has been operated by the same family since opening many decades ago, so this would represent a potentially huge shift for a mainstay on the island.

One can only hope this doesn’t lead them down the path of places like Tropical that underwent rebranding and renovations only to open back up with rooms north of €1,000/night.

Regardless, it was made to sound as if change is imminent…

“Le Village” is iconic. Opening, I believe, around 1969 / 1970, it & owners — the Charneau family — have graciously & generously served guests ever since then in the Hotel’s village-like setting of stone paths among its cottages . . . through bougainvillea-filled, lush gardens and breathtaking views. It has been, moreover, refined & updated through the years so as to maintain the look, comfort, & feel of discrete, refined, up-to-date standards which have made it legendary.

Wendy & I first stayed there 44 years ago and used the Hotel — and came to know the Charneau family and many among the staff — frequently, often for extended stays when we bought & renovated Villa CEC . . . and later in the course of renovations to the Normandie Hotel.

As is seen with growing frequency — and as Amy noted in another message earlier today — “The Times They Are a-Changin’.” I trust that, as the future unfolds, Le Village will be in the hands of worthy stewards. Meanwhile, I’m happy to have enjoyed the friendship & hospitality of the Charneau family . . . and wish many years of healthy retirement for them.

Cheryl & I had a wonderful stay there after Irma. Emaraude Plage no longer and we were looking for alternatives. It was a remarkable stay. Many fond memories.

Like others I have a long history with Village and the Charneau family. While it’s been years since we’ve stayed there, in the past they helped us with a couple of days on front and back ends of our Villa stays. There were also years we stayed there for our whole trip. The memories are so fond I can only hope the next generation will retain the things they did so well. We’ll have to wait and see

I don't think it's a stretch to predict some renovation will occur followed by a doubling in rates.

Way of the island, it seems.

Lisa and I stayed there for 13 nights over xmas/New Year's once. Lovely property.

Perfectly comfortable for the price and a doable walk down and up the hill.

Who can forget my mad NYE scramble down the hill to the shopping area for white underwear for my NYE kinda shear linen pants!

After having the privilege of knowing and staying with the Charneau family since 1986 we wish them the best in whatever the future brings them..
