SBHOnlinehas traditionally had a contest to guess the winner of what has always (here) been called La Transat. The formal name is La Transat Paprec. Paprec Group, the primary sponsor, is a French waste-management firm. They process much of the waste on St Barth

Here are some links for those who chose to follow the race, or to who chose to participate in the contest. The information is (mostly) in French. If you are not a French-speaker then Google Translate is your friend. For those looking at a page on FB, FB's translation is inferior to Google's.

Here are the rules which we have used in the past. I had considered making a change to the duration of the window when entries can be made, but at the speed that these boats are moving today, that would leave a window of less than 24 hours for entries to be made.

Contest Rules
The contest is to pick the winning Transat Paprec 2025 boat and closest time of arrival as recorded at the official arrival in St. Barth. Each member can pick only one boat and one arrival time in even hours. Once a member picks that boat and time, no member can pick that boat within one hour of the original entry. For example, Tim picks -

Demain14:00 May 8, 2015 Tim

JEK could later pick the same boat but only so long as the arrival time was one hour different, e.g. -

Demain15:00 May 8, 2015 JEK

Dennis could then pick-

Demain13:00 May 8, 2015, Dennis

If Demain comes in ahead of the fleet at 13:31 on May 8, Tim wins the contest - except that Tim, as a moderator, is disqualified.

The opportunity to pick your winners WILL BE ANNOUNCED when the first vessel is within approximately 1,000 miles of St. Barth. That opportunity will close once the first vessel is within 500 miles of St. Barth. The average speed as of the last update is 10 knots, but that could change at any time. If the 10 knot speed is maintained then that will provide about a- 2-daywindow for entries.

The contest is now open for entries. I'll be adding some additional race information in the next few hours.

There have been a few lead changes overnight, Skipper Macif leading for a bit, and Wings of the Ocean now back in the lead. The leaders have all moved a bit north, in search of wind. Other boats are staying close to the lay line, the most direct route to St Barth. The positions below are from the 7am ET update.

The lead has changed again, with Skipper Macif back in front, and Cap St Barth is creeping up. The 5pm ET update is posted below.

As the race gets closer to the end, several sailors catch my eye. Charlotte Yven on Skipper Macif was on Skipper Macif in 2023 when it won the race. Martin Le Pape on Demain is participating in at least his third Transat, and of course Cindy Brin on Cap St Barth is a St Barth native. Pauline Courtois on Wings of the Ocean is sailing in her second Transat, finishing in third place in 2023.

At this point, any of the leading five or six boats could win the race,

As of the 8am ET update, Wings of the Ocean has retaken the lead from Skipper Macif, with Cap St Barth closing in. The rest of the fleet is catching up, with the top 9 boats within about 50 miles of each other as the northern and southern groups converge. Low wind and squalls are a constant complaint.

The contest will close at 11pm ET tonight, Monday May 5, at which point the lead boats will be within 500 miles of St Barth.

Please get entries in by that time.
