La Petite Plage

So I realized I was remiss (encore) by not writing about our La Petite Plage experience! We were very impressed with the food at the sister restaurant in St-Tropez and we had hoped to try it out. Our concierge made us the perfect table reservation, outside on the port, directly facing the enormous 2 masted ship in the harbor, and kind of in the walk around the corner traffic pattern so lots of people came by. The noise, of course, remained mainly in the inside, and everyone inside made it seem like it was lots of fun. La Petite Plage has some girls that have a little dance session/show on regular intervals (indoors) which was very cute, too. Another great thing is that they have valet parking, a godsend in Gustavia for sure. Our reservation was at 9:30 pm.

From the minute we checked in, we were treated so well; everyone was super nice and the employees seemed genuinely happy and wanted to make the guests very happy and cared for. Two guys who looked to be owner/manager/security? were standing next to the hostess stand and keeping an eye on things. Our waitress was so attentive and the whole place seemed to be on the same page, really interested in serving the clients. The employees seemed to have a very efficient communication with each other, my water glass was never empty, and it seemed like a well oiled machine of keeping their eye on you and were there for whatever you needed. I went to find the rest room at the front by the hostess stand and this perfectly charming young guy offered me his arm and escorted me over, with a lot of good cheer and humor.

So what about the food, you ask? Well, it was somewhat expensive, yes, but the food was fantastic. I had Mahi-Mahi night, so started with this ceviche thing of mahi-mahi with yuzu citrus sauce, studded with beautiful seeds of pomegranate that gave a little pop in your mouth, and some crunchy things that sort of felt like semi-popped corn but it was not. (Maybe it was some grain thing but I put it aside because it was pretty hard and did not wish to tempt dental work in SBH.) The dish was really delicious and pretty citrusy if you like that.

Here is DD's appetizer, but he did not tell me préalablement because he knew I'd freak out and not be able to look:

Then it was Mahi-Mahi Part Deux with DD and me doing a Pas de Deux, where we both had mahi-mahi in a truly fabulous tomato type sauce..yes, fish in red sauce!! You can't do red sauce on fish..said nobody ever! It was all I could do not to lick the little casserole it came in. I just found the menu online:
MAHI-MAHI AU CONFIT DE TOMATE AU BASILIC, BEURRE BATTU AU CITRON 46

Both of my dishes were just perfect minus the crunchy grainy thing in the first dish. It felt very nuanced and "gourmet". I was not drinking that night, due to my cold, but DD had himself a nice mai-tai in a ceramic pineapple, which was festive! We had been to Nikki for lunch late, so did not indulge in dessert. I would go back there in a minute and I encourage you to have a good look on line at their truly exquisite menu selections. Maybe that is the best menu I've seen in a long time as far as selection and variety goes. I can't speak to the music but I am sure I would have had fun inside, too. People were smoking outdoors on both sides of us from time to time and it continued to be a personal problem for me, which was the only negative I can say about any of the restaurants. I remain in shock as to how many people still smoke in SBH restaurants. Mais c'est la vie! If you are thinking about going to La Petite Plage, check out the menu and don't hesitate. The food was "all that and a bag of chips!"
