. . . not fancy, but a very locally authentic venue with very good, very reasonably-priced food. Great, well-priced wine selection, as well. Fabulous proprietor / chef, Romain (formerly Sous Chef at L’Esprit). No food photos here, unfortunately (I had sautéed squid), as I was engrossed in my guest’s stories of vintage island history. A forever-SBH resident, with his family among early arrivals, there are never-ending, always fascinating anecdotes.

Largemouth Bass…amazing. I live about 30 minutes from Guntersville Lake in Alabama, home of some of the best largemouth bass fishing in the US. My father used to fish for a hobby, and my mom could fry the best amazing bass. Oh the memories. However, can’t imagine trying it on the island, haha
I love reading your personal story! However . . . thinking that you should reach out of your comfort zone & try the local offering of “Largemouth Bass!” I’m one who likes to stick to ”tried-&-true,” but as time goes by, I am increasingly trying new menu items & new restaurants. Some “hits,” some “misses.” But no regrets. “Everyday is a gift,” as Amy, our dear & wise Forum friend counsels me, & I’m learning everyday from her advice!
Great post. We are eager to try this in July. We like places that feel local and authentic. Nice looking menu.
