La Guerite

Email this morning announcing re-opening of "La Guerite Beach Saint-Barth" on November 2 . . . and then "La Guerite Restaurant" on November 6, with "Mediterranean flavors" of Chef Yiannis Kiorouglou (https://www.yianniskioroglou.com/en/home-page/). It's interesting to see that Shellona is part of the Greek Chef's international collection of restaurants.

Has anyone gone to Le Guerite restaurant lately?
. . . haven't been to the Gustavia restaurant in about two years . . . went to the Beach restaurant in the past "season." It's very pretty, with very good food and service. Quite expensive, however . . . even by SBH standards, IMO.

La Guérite and The Goose have always had a partnership on Shellona. The “Chef” has always been Yiannis Kiouroglou. As with most hotel restaurants, his name may be there, but he is rarely there.

I refer to these chefs as “helicopter Chefs”. They fly in, create a menu, and fly away.

There’s a quote which has been attributed to many Chefs of Michelin-starred restaurants (the restaurant has the star, not the Chef).

Q: Who cooks when you’re not here?
A: The same people who cook when I am here.

(the restaurant has the star, not the Chef).
Ça dépend
From the Gourmet Festival list this year, you'll find Christophe Bacquié, who left le restaurant de l'Hôtel du Castellet *** to do his own thing in his auberge in the Vaucluse. His second at Castellet, Fabien Ferré, took M. Bacquié's place and was, with considerable controversy, awarded his trois macarons almost seamlessly. One suspects certain centers of influence were used to create such an unexpectedly fluid continuation.
At any rate, M. Bacquié now enjoys two Michelins stars at his table d'hôtes.
Should be a fun GF this year. We'll depend on Dad and JA for timely reviews. :)

Yes this is true when they have one restaurant. The helicopter chefs like Kevin is referring to are those like Jean-George, the late Joël Robuchon, Alain Ducasse, Wolfgang Puck, etc who were all once young chefs striving for that first, second, and third star... once they become brand names with many restaurants to their name, they are not in the kitchen of any of them I would wager...

There is the “other” La Guérite restaurant in Cannes on an island. Here is the description: sounds familiar..
ABOUT
Located on the Sainte-Marguerite islands, away from prying eyes, La Guérite Cannes is a little corner of paradise bordered by the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea, only accessible by boat. A heavenly place for a lunch with your feet in the sand, where you can enjoy the gourmet wanderings of Chef Yiannis Kioroglou in the shade of the arbor or under a pine tree... The pleasure continues with a game of pétanque in the garden or a lazy session on one of the beach's sunbeds, with a breathtaking view over the entire bay of Cannes. At dinner time, the illuminated places become most romantic...

Our daughter and friends stayed in Cannes this July and went out to the island "La Guérite". Turns out Lando Norris (McLaren F1) was there with friends and somehow they made it into every video and picture she took. He took notice and flipped her off, which she sent me evidence of and won't be shared. Being a LeClerc fan, she had no problem marching over and telling him that was rude and not to do it again! Oh, to be young!!

I am a F1 fanatic, that is very funny. However, you have to respect that the F1 drivers should be able to just enjoy themselves. Last year Max Verstappen was on St. Barths with his girlfriend and her daughter. That is a good thing about St. Barth, celebrities can be left alone!

Agree about privacy, which is what we like about SBH, but the "young's"......? Regardless, what I found even funnier, is that she closed with "You're not even our favorite F1 driver!!"

So there!!
