La Gloriette . . . what’s in a name?

Senior Insider
I don’t think anyone has written yet about this report . . . it’s quite reliably disclosed that our much-loved La Gloriette restaurant site has been long-term leased by SBH restaurateur extraordinaire Hervé Chovet (Le Rivage, Bar-b-que in Gustavia, Côté Port, Le QG, Buns). My understanding is that the site will be built in accordance with approved building plans, which are posted on a fence at the site. The goal, I understand, is to open in time for “The Bucket.”

Very eager to have it in my ‘hood . . . looking forward to a return to a corner table on a reconstructed version of the former “La Gloriette” deck (of course, I can’t give up my very special seat at adjacent Ti Corail!) . . . and am thrilled that a meeting-of-minds between legendary SBH restaurateurs Hervé & Albert Balayn has happened. It’s a win/win development.

I have much respect for both Hervé and Albert. I hope that their mutual plans are/become an agreement, and that the restaurant reopens by next Spring.

I want those beach-side tables back!

I also have hopes for a return of Cassolette - If Albert will share the recipe.

Dennis, this is the best scoop in a long long time. Wishing all the parties “Bonne Chance!”

+1, especially for the cassolete which even my iPhone insists on making into cassoulet

Fantastic news, even if we arrive too early to go to the resto. Hervé and Albert will be such a winning combination, it will be a pleasure to have them close by, I am sure! So much happiness given by these two to many people! Yes, for sure, Kevin, those beach side tables were just divine! And any friend of a lobster is a friend of mine!:D

When I think of Albert I always think of our first trip to the island and dining with him at Le Flamboyant. Oh, and that special dish without any beans in it!

Construction at the La Gloriette site is “full steam ahead!” The reported goal is a March opening. Here are some photos of the scene today.

Cranes to the left of me. Cranes to the right. UGH. Stuck in the middle am I. Ugh again.

Those are happy cranes to me. From the picture on the permit board, I envision a nice boozy lunch and a nap on the chaise.

I feel your joy. You are imagining an idyllic location POST CRANE FRENZY. I am seeing them bloom all over, nowadays.
