L’AVANT-GARDE

Our WaPo food editor highly recommended this new place, so for our anniversary dinner off we went! We were not disappointed!

I started with a C and T - butterscotch infused Calvados and tonic!

Then came a house special of herring-style marinated salmon with potatoes

Madame had the burrata (no photo)

Mains of scallops with bone marrow and truffles

And mine of duck foie gras on Branzino

A beautiful presentation of Baba Au Rhum to finish!

Service, presentation and taste just outstanding! Best two-top #23 (our table) or #24 - this from the sommelier!

Thanks, John! Zion-worthy! I’ll hope to try it on next DC visit.

I couldn’t read the WaPo review . . . don’t have a subscription. However, from another review: “L’Avant-Garde joins other high-end French eateries in the Georgetown neighborhood like La Chaumiere, Lutéce, Apéro, and Brasserie Liberté. French cuisine is especially on the rise around D.C., thanks to Le Diplomate’s continued reputation as a politico and celebrity magnet and recent arrivals like Le Clou in NoMa and Ellington Park Bistro in the West End.” (Note - not sure what comprises “West End” . . . and “NoMa” — North of Mass Ave?)

I’d also recommend a view of the website for L’Avant-Garde . . . the desserts look “out of this world!”
