. . . celebrating hope of salvation.

Today I had the good fortune of being part of an extraordinary Easter Mass in the newly reopened / restored Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. There’s still exterior work underway since its great fire of five years ago — the replica spire recently was put in place, for example — but the interior seems to have been exquisitely restored (though many lament the loss of its legendary patina of accumulated soot, dirt, & grime).

Through circumstances, I was fortunate enough to be seated in the third row from the altar, so was situated to savor the spectacular panoply of adult & children’s choirs, new/contemporary (foreground) & old (background) altars, powerful organ music, beautifully restored stained glass windows, solemn ceremonial service, & enough incense to choke a horse!

Post-Mass hours included a “walkabout“ stop for a coupe de champagne at St. Regis café on Ile St. Louis & lunch at Ma Bourgogne restaurant at the Places des Vosges. Meeting tonight for dinner with L’Abbé Laurent of Saint-Roch church, brother of L’Esprit’s eminent host.

An amazing restoration. How fortunate you are to be in so special a place on this Holy Day.

Dinnerware by Tiffany/La Reve? Just a guess.

Wow. It’s good to be Mr. Dennis :)

Voici le jour que fit le Seigneur, qu’il soit pour nous jour de fête et de joie ! (Ps 117, 24)

Breathtakingly beautiful, Dennis! Thank you for sharing this with us all. The restoration of the Cathedral is amazing. Wonderful to see on this Easter Sunday. 🙏🏻

Springtime in Paris always my favorite time to be there with lilacs of all colors in bloom & the scent of them passing b, all the gardens full of spring flowers, even rain was ok. But an Easter service at Notre Dame certainly an exceptional treat, Dennis a very lucky person!

Lucky and deserving…IMHO. I love when nice things happen to nice people.

I love how every post Dennis makes, whether it be about a restaurant or a church, includes some food and wine content!!!

. . . vital to pleasure in life!

After eight nights in Paris, now in Basel, Switzerland . . . where the current big deal is white asparagus. Its availability apparently only lasts about three weeks, and locals flock to restaurants that feature it. Our hotel offered them at lunch as a salad, mixed with hearts of palm and green asparagus . . . which I enjoyed a lot, even though local purists would have not appreciated the combination!

Main course was local Sea Bass in a broth with risotto & celery . . . a WOW combination!

Thanks, Bart, for giving me the opening to share my food porn!

I sent a lot of time in Ch and loved spargel season! Don’t let them convince you that sea bass is local as the nation is landlocked!
Cassis not working out this September, so doing a swing thru CH (Lugano) and IT (Dolomites and Venezia). Won't be spargel season but hopefully lots of porcini

. . . my mistake. i initially thought it was said to be “Chilean,” then “local.” In speaking today to the chef, he said that it’s from Greece! In any event, excellent!
