It's Officially Hurricane Season 2025

. . . supposed to be arriving on Sunday -- sorry that we'll miss time to get together!
Oh goodness ~ me too! Sad I will just miss seeing you. Because of this potential weather, I hastened my departure because Dave has a trip all next week so I have to return to care for the little dogs. I didn’t want to risk getting back or else I would have stayed. I did see the roadwork at Villa CEC and hope they’ve cleared it a little by the time of your arrival. Yesterday I saw the sargassum at Grand Fond too ~ nature is really something else. If I could shrink photos I would post them. I’m attaching anyway but likely they are too large. Safe travels!

your flights still a "go" at this point ?
Yes for Sunday. TW is rescheduling its Saturday SJU/SBH flights, but Sunday remains a “go.” As far as AA (JAX-MIA-SJU)) on Sunday, I’m expecting that if TW thinks it will be able to fly, then AA should be able to get its 737 on the ground at SJU, as scheduled. Fingers crossed (after all, I have a Sunday evening dinner party to attend!).

Good luck Dennis and all traveling!

Unfortunately, a text message arrived on my phone this morning about 11:30 while en route from MIA to SJU . . . from a friend at Tradewind who had been monitoring the airline’s service (or cancellation thereof) today. A late morning meeting of the “dispatch team“ determined that flights were a “no go:”
“Weather just not good enough, unfortunately, particularly the wind situation over at SBH.”

I arrived SJU in light rain, with very minor turbulence about 30 minutes before landing. (Quite remarkably, the AA flight from MIA arrived SJU 30 minutes ahead of schedule! A rare occurrence !) With a text message to my trusty travel agent — yes, they still exist, & I’ve been using the inestimable “Joyce” for 35 years! — I got a reservation for tonight at the Condado Vanderbilt. Joyce worked her “magic,” & I was welcomed to the Hotel as a returning, honored guest . . . not sure why, but it translated to an upgrade to a lovely suite with terrace, overlooking the ocean. A light lunch . . . a walk around Condado . . . a short “power nap” . . . and I’m now headed out to dinner (it wasn’t easy for the Concierge to find a “fine dining” restaurant that would accept me in shorts!).

Scheduled tomorrow for a TW flight at Noon. I’m certainly missing the dinner party planned for this evening with friends on SBH. (C’est la vie.) But, I’ll have a month to “play” with them & others (it’s the beginning of my “birthday month!”)

. . . more to come!

Sorry your plans got blown, but better safe than sorry.

Enjoy the Puerto Rico stay….sounds like you are in good hands!

Looking forward to your musings soon to come our way.

SAFE travels wished and hugs being sent.

. . . recalling occasional prior, similarly annoying interludes! Always right to be safe, however, & I have total respect & admiration for the folks of Tradewind Aviation in the difficult client relations-related decisions of weather matters.

Meanwhile, I’m concluding a really great dinner in Condado area of San Juan at a lovely, unpretentious restaurant, with memorably excellent food. Who woulda guessed! Please make a note . . . if you’re overnighting in San Juan (forced or otherwise), you’ll never regret finding Luisa Restaurant at 71 Calle Luisa!

(BTW, I have to confess that success in the evening was a foregone conclusion when I arrived at the Restaurant’s foyer & the smiling Hostess looked up & said, “You’re sooo cute!” Being within “spittin’ distance“ of 80, I knew that I was in the right place!)

Well, Dennis, she got it right! And you are indeed off to a good start after all. Hopefully you complete the journey home to SBH tomorrow.

Glad you’re safe and an honored guest wherever you go…as it should be! Traveling is an adventure. TW also moved me out Thursday as we remain good friends with E & D so they thought it was best. We shall see you soon next trip! Have fun and can’t wait to see your adventures on the island posted here!
