Re: got sushi????

Wow...how do you pull in a fish like that?

very carefully!!!!!....we do it the ol school way...no fighting chair...stand up.....a gimbal belt ...and its you against it....for a lot of hours.....we use the boat to help us though...when it runs away from us one guy is holding the rod and one guy is steering towards it.....eventually it gets tired and gives up....and it gets stuck with a flying gaff hook and dragged to the stern.....there is a door on the stern transom. open the door, tail wrap his ass...and winch him in the boat...close the door and go home

RT...Bluefin Tuna....

Mike

How old would a fish like that be? It looks like a monster. I have caught MUCH smaller ones and they fight like heck...I hate to think how long that took to land?

Re: got sushi????

The bluefin is the prime sushi fish, fetches top dollar, and has become endangered for that reason. It's an amazing animal perfectly adapted to the deep ocean. Read more here.

Re: got sushi????

first the lobster, now the tuna.

you are seriously depleting the gene pool out there, Miker...

Re: got sushi????

A dummy question; why is it sent to Japan? After all, they've got all the Pacific to fish from..

Re: got sushi????

Andy.....bluefish????...not moi???...thats a 35 cents a pound fish.....you misunderstood me

Petri.....our bluefin tuna are prized for its fat content....they never ever stay here in the states...the Japanese want them all and are willing to pay a high premium to get them...consequently none of them stay here in the states...they get up to 100 dollars a pound for them in Japan.....good for them....better for me...LOL

Re: got sushi????

Let me see if I have this correct:

A benjamin per pound and you have an 800 pound fish? If even half of it is meat that you can sell, that would be $40,000.

Sweet!

Re: got sushi????

Probably more than that IV...got your message, thanks, go Tigs.

My little hometown of 1A football (lost only to the State Champs last year by 1 point and graduated only 3) beat last year's 2A Champion Friday night 26-21 in a big game! First win over them in 5 years, and only the 5th win over 28 years. Just huge! Love football. Chesterfield is averaging on offense 49 points & 2.2 on defense. Not bad.

MikeR, that is one giant & yep, Japan is the winner always. Almost 100% of the good ones go there from Charleston. Big bucks!

its good - but not that good.....this fish was consigned -meaning we dont get a settled price until the fish is shipped and compared to every other fish shipped that day......when you do it that way you HAVE to trust your fishmonger....something I am very fortunate to be able to do seeing that I grew up with the guy and he is a very close friend...this fish "settled" at 13.65 a pound.....so it is roughly a ten thousand dollar fish to us.....net...for roughly 5 hours of work.....considerably more a pound then that we would get from an offered price at the dock not knowing what the fat content is.. the most we get is 20 bucks a pound....keep in mind that 100 dollars a pound price over in Japan is reflective of the fact the fish is boxed, dry iced and overnighted to Japan

it aint 40 grand but it still beats the hell out of working in an honest job with a boss, a dress code, and a commute ....LMAO

and if you get two or three in the short six to eight week season...you ve done well
