May 19, 2021 Update – Is St Barts Open Now?

The short answer is “Yes”, with conditions.
On May 19, the Collectivite of St Barths took the first step in officially re-opening its borders to tourism. In part one of the re-opening, ALL residents of the EU, plus a list of safe countries* and those transiting through France, are only required to produce a negative COVID-19 PCR test result, from a test taken no more than 3 full days prior to arrival in St. Barts (for example: Get tested on Wednesday morning, arrive in St Barts Saturday afternoon).
Upon entry, travelers from the EU are asked to protect the local population by staying out of public areas for 7 days, including restaurants and boutiques. Effective June 9, any traveler who has been fully vaccinated will be allowed to move freely about the island upon arrival
*Andorra, Australia, South Korea, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, New Zealand, United Kingdom, San Marino, San MarinoHeadquarters, Singapore, Switzerland.
Can residents of the US and Canada enter St Barts Now?

The short answer is “Yes”, with conditions.
If you are a resident of the US and Canada, while the central government in Paris has not officially reopened French territory to you, the local government of St Barts has created a process for you to enter St Barts. What’s required?

  • Proof of being vaccinated (CDC card showing at least one shot)
  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test result, from a test taken no more than 3 full days prior to arrival in St. Barts (for example: Get tested on Wednesday morning, arrive in St Barts Saturday afternoon).
The catch is that for ALL travelers not living in the EU, there is one additional step. You need to send your proof of vaccination to your villa rental agency, or hotel front desk, and they will then register you for entry. This process usually takes less than 24 hours.

What’s required to enter St Barts?

All inbound visitors to St. Barths are required to present a negative COVID-19 rt-PCR test result, from a test taken within 3 days prior to arrival in St. Barths. Children age 10 or younger are exempt from this requirement. Please note: Even if you have been vaccinated, you will be still required to get tested in order to enter St. Barths.

If you are staying in a private villa rented direct from the owner and therefore not working with a villa agency or hotel, how does one comply with the vaccination registration process?

Am I understanding correctly? We are not allowed to go to restaurants, etc.?

I guess the key is to separate traveling from the EU (and some other places/circumstances listed in step 1 above) and the US (and Canada). I'm guessing that soon the US rules will be the same as the recent change for the EU. But for now the big change is not yet in effect for travelers from the US

This is how I read it:
EU, plus all others listed in the first section above starting 5/19: Only requirement is a negative PCR test within 3 days of travel (not 72 hours :biglaugh:)
Quarantine: Effective May 19th this group is "asked" to stay out of public areas for seven days upon arrival; Effective June 9, if vaccinated, this group need not quarantine at all.
So vaccination not required for entry but is required to avoid being "asked" to stay out of public areas (for non-vaccinated people this is effective May 19th and there is no change to this effective June 9th)

US (Canada): current rules for entry still require both proof of vaccination (at least one shot) and a negative PCR test. Proof of vaccination needs to be sent to the villa agency or hotel in advance who will register you for entry (no mention of 7 day minimum). Quarantine rules are the same as for the first group above. So, other than no mention of the 7 day stay there seems to be no change here so far for those from the US. My guess (stressing guess) is that soon (maybe June 9th?) the rules for entry from the US will match those from the EU.

"Upon entry, travelers from the US and Canada are asked to protect the local population by staying out of public areas for 7 days,"

Underlining added for emphasis.

To clarify, even after June 9th. All travelers will require to be vaccinated?

Still nothing offical from the COM on US-SBH travel, but the France-SBH only mentions that vaccinated people do not need to self quarintine afte June 9th. We are all waiting and wondering when more clarity will be promulgated.
