Upcoming New Years Eve

I'll be in St Barths over NYE this year and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for places to go that night or annual parties I might look into? Thanks.

Re: Upcoming New Years Eve

My suggestion is to bring a suitcase full of money if one wants to participate in the parties at the restaurants or night spots. Some charge as much as six hundred euros per person excluding alcohol. If you want to do things on the cheaper side, eat at home and then go to the free party at the dock along with most of the island's population. If you really want to go cheap, find a generous friend with a boat or villa.

Re: Upcoming New Years Eve

You might want to read "Civilized Explorer"s account of NYE 2003 (?) on Barts, available by combing through their website. Google "civilized explorer" and you'll find it. (Of course, others on this list can probably link you directly to the article, but I'm not that Web--ically agile.)

We were sitting at the table next to CE at Sapotillier that NYE, and I do wholeheartedly concur with their review. Noisy, overpriced, frantic. Enough with the motorcycles!

But still, it was Barts. The best part is dancing on the quay with what seems a thousand other happy people: pretty lights, impossibly prettier boats and their accompanying women. NOT TO BE MISSED are the boat horns and fireworks at midnight.

Anticipate egregious price gouging, a complete absence of parking, and traffic gridlock in front of Nikki Beach. If you're up for it, go!

Been there, done it once, and once is enough. Wouldn't have missed it, though.

Re: Upcoming New Years Eve

i spent 2000 NYE on sbh...best night of my life!! dont let some of the old fogies put a damper on it for you...lol...you will love it...i was there with my brother and sister...but i lost them early....i got in around 5 or 6 am...great reggae band on the quay, beer tents everywhere,no cars allowed in gustavia,it was a scene...some on this board, think its the worst, but if youre young,or young at heart,i cant think of a cooler spot to bring in the new year...now,if my dad, would ever give me time off again,i would start planning another new years trip...

Re: Upcoming New Years Eve

Now Peter..there is no need to refer disparingly to us ol fogies...especially ol fogies who you hope, when you are this old... will have had this many experiences, so when your tired arthritic body sits back in your ol fogie recliner to reflect a bit.....every now and then.....you can smile that big ol smile that only comes with having lived life to the fullest...LOL

that being said....

I've done New Years Eve in Times Square...I've done New Years Eve in Vail...I've done New Years Eve in St Barts....know what they all have in common ??

once was more then enough...

but I suppose if you like getting gouged for everything you eat and drink....and if you love beng in the company of amateur drinkers who act it...then you have found your shangrala.... go forth and partake in it and enjoy all the fruits the evening will bear.....assuming of course, that by your own words, Daddy lets you

now a private party.... say, a dinner with a few select friends in a villa that overlooks the harbor....with a refrigerator full of champagne....and some great music on....that could get me interested.....maybe

may I suggest Mardi Gras in New Orleans also???.....you will definetly like that too

Re: Upcoming New Years Eve

The one New Year's I did in SBH was fantastic, but as has been previously been mentioned be prepared for High expenses and crowds everywhere. Book villas, dining reservations and especially rental cars early, or you'll end up on a scooter. On the subject of crowds and New Years, I just saw an ad for the new Four Seasons cruise ship that is advertising spending New Years eve in SBH. This should give the word crowded new meaning. The reason we enjoyed our New Years eve so much is that we were lucky enough to be invited onto a beautiful yacht right on the Quay in Gustavia. It was great to be near the crowd on the quay, but not in the crowd. Try to get a party invite and you'll be good to go. Let me know if you need Puffy's cell number, it's here in my rolodex somewhere.

Re: Upcoming New Years Eve

no price gouging for us...we are low maintenence...we dont need to dine at sap or the goose...we had a great pre nye party on the 3rd floor veranda at the sunset hotel...booze and munchies for about 15...plus mary jane was invited...we staggard down to the quay around 11 30 pm,we wanted to go much earlier, but we were having a kick as time....the time got away from us...we made it for mid night fire works and boat horns...then we partied all night all over gustavia... it was a blast...do i think nye is amatuer night...yes...but not this night...it was too much fun,and the people watching was worth the trip alone...nobody gauged us with 4 buck heinekens...and we didnt pay a cover for petite club or the bar that was there before the yacht club...the one with the pink caddy out front...i think american video bar?? can someone help with the name?

Re: Upcoming New Years Eve

Peter, you definately know how to live. Disregard those fogies who can't/don't remember how to how to experience a happening like NY's in SB---without spending a fortune, either. Hell, some of them problably stay home listening "Lady in Red"...I remember personally bumming/enjoying one of your Heineken's on the Sunset terrace a few years back my friend.

Re: Upcoming New Years Eve

phil, what respectable nye party, would not have mary jane on the guest list? jeff, right?? yea, that was 2 winters ago...it was nice meeting you...that was the last time i was on sbh....too long ago!! i rarely post on the main board anymore, because i havent been down in 2 winters...i feel my info would be dated...but i still like to stir it up,in everything else forum...
