Questions from a first timer

Hello,

My wife and I will be visiting St. Barts for the first time this summer, and we could use a bit of help, please.

First, any recommendations for a reasonably-priced hotel? Baie des Anges looks nice, and Saline Garden Cottages looks nice too. Any others we should be considering?

Second, which beaches have beach chairs and umbrellas set up? Are they for guests of certain hotels only? Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help. We are really looking forward to this vacation.

Re: Questions from a first timer

those are good budget friendly choices..also look at Auberge Petit de Anse ( this will be our 12th consecutive year staying there )...Petit Morne...Village St Jean..and Les Moettes

Isle De France on Flammand, Eden Rock, and Nikki Beach on St Jean all have beach chairs and stuff like that....not being one who uses that stuff I dont know how much or who is allowed to use them....count on them not being cheap though

Re: Questions from a first timer

Isle de France & Le Sereno chaises/umbrellas are free providing you've had or will have lunch or drinks. The others generally run 20

Re: Questions from a first timer

Ditto. Usually buying a few drinks at IDF gets you beach chairs. Using the "search" function on this site will usually help you find some valuable info. Takes time to sort through all the knowledge residing here. Always worth it.

If you are staying at Baie des Anges you will have beach chairs for Flamands- the best beach so far as I am concerned. You may not want to go to any other beach.

Re: Questions from a first timer

Ditto again. Flamands. Great beach, great walks and a short trek to Colombier.

Baie des Anges. Annie's place, right? For the price (and location and food), kinda puts IDF to shame (IMHO.)

Re: Questions from a first timer

Flammands...Best Beach? If it is, then why don't more use it.....just wondering.

"No one goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

Yoginap.

We were all sworn to secrecy after the first stay on Flamands. But, I gotta tell you, it's a

Re: Questions from a first timer

I agree... Flamands is by far the best beach. But you guys keep flocking to Saline and Gouverneur and St. Jean, we don't mind at all...

Here's Flamands on the Saturday before Easter, at the height of the season:

Re: Questions from a first timer

"best beach" is very subjective.....we all have different parameters......they are all good for what they offer..depends on what you are in the mood for

Mike- if you can't spell it you can't use it. LOL

Yeah...I know, noticed it after i was quoted by Dennis and decided why correct it....

Soooo, no one has answered my question....why are there so few that go to Flamands?

Well- let's see- maybe St. Jean is closer, Flamands is too far to drive and only one public entrance, Flamands surf is rough- whatever.

BUT ANDY, everyone always says it is a "short drive" to anywhere on the island...saline and Gov. have one entrance, surf seems similar too. Ok...everyone give me the real reason....

Re: Questions from a first timer

I didn't realize the number of people going to any particular place, and being the "best" were synonymous ..learn something new every time I come in here....

Re: Questions from a first timer

I wish I had taken a picture of the 40+ people the day we went to Flamands (last February)....I was shocked and while 40 doesn't sound like a lot for such a large beach, I had never seen so many people on any beach in SB.

I would be shocked to find more than 3 couples on Flamands (I don't count those that are using IDF).

40 people max. on a beach in Feb...You've never been to Saline or Gov. :))

Re: Questions from a first timer

You've never been to Saline or Gov. :)
Of course, I have....you've even seen me there, lol....but honestly, the day we were on Flamands was weird...we've been there several times and it was always very empty....but this particular day we were on the opposite end from IDF, near the stairs from the road....and I guess everyone was entering from that side because we just sat and watched people keep coming, lol. Probably a cruise ship day.

Re: Questions from a first timer

and btw, Saline and Gouverneur are NOT my favorite beaches, although very nice ; )

You have to experience the trek to Saline and the road to Gouverneur at least once imho.
