We spent more per day on food than accommodations many days, and our villa was under $400 per day.

We went to St John last year. Overall it cost about the same if not a little more than St Barths does. I guess how much something costs is subjective.

Who the hell spends 58 a day for food in St Barth ? That's two glasses of wine and then you have 3 meals to go. I have never spent anywhere near 1700 a day in lodging.
