For those of you who have used FedEx to ship from the U.S. to "has its own personality" SBH, anything special to know in terms of best way to mail, ty

If they are able to take a credit card you may find that the price goes up. Of course this is because the original price quoted represents a cash/check discount, not because they are surcharging you to recoup the credit card fee that they pay...

I realize that but there is such a thing as customer convenience .I certainly dont like taking CC and PayPal for ski condo rentals but I do it as a convenience..and build that cost into my quoted price.....geez we're only talking 1-2 percent here..a little more for Amex...just build it in and take all forms of payment

I agree. But try paying St Barth Properties or WIMCO with a creditcard and see what happens...

its wrong.....but hey they can do it anyway they like I suppose.....Suger takes my Amex with a smile and doesn't charge me extra....

also I cannot imagine a resort property manager not capable of taking credit cards

With the usual upcharge for credit cards. }:|

It may sound silly. But, establishing a good relationship with an agency or owner pays off in the long run. [eg. we have never paid those 10% ugly fees.]

Morning always looks just right -

I can't speak for what they pay down there but here at home there is fierce competition amongst banks to get your CC business and that has driven rates as low as 1% ...AMEX is pretty much 3% no matter what...that is why many businesses who take AMEX dont advertise they do....the less AMEX transactions, the better..plus in a CC chargeback dispute MC/VISA initially sides with the merchant, where AMEX initially sides with the consumer

Why not use USPS Express Mail Intl for under $30.00?

My experience has been that a turtle might get to SBH faster. I think it's because of the French postal service. The few times I "express" mailed to SBH, we tracked the mail through France, Guadeloupe and other points in between. UPS was no better, priority letter took 20 days to get there.

At this point, I think we might just take our chances with trying it as carry on. Hey, it's always so much fun to start vacation with a potential marital argument over something stupid!!

WOW! Just checked with Fed Ex, and to send the property manager a check for our villa, in the smallest FedEx envelope (6 ounces or less), USING my company account, is $45.74! There must be a better (cheaper) way, but I don't think property manager accepts credit cards, or at the least, they are certainly trying to avoid them. Has anyone else had a similar situation?

I too was stunned when i was charged just under 60 USD to send a contract and check to our villa owner. At least I saved having to send the final check the same way. I included two seperate checks in the original envelope. We're probably going to rent the same place again. Can you still send something "Air Mail" if you don't care how long it takes to get here?

As I mentioned above, using the postal service is slooow. Our mail always, eventually, got to SBH. On the other hand, a couple years ago we sent 5 post cards from SBH to family in the USA. 3 got through. Never saw the other 2 again. We often use USPS to send stuff to Europe and the Orient. No problems. Getting things posted to St. Barths, for some reason, is a real drag.
