For those of you who have used FedEx to ship from the U.S. to "has its own personality" SBH, anything special to know in terms of best way to mail, ty

My 2¢: make sure you spell out the full name "St Barthelemy" when dealing with Fedex. It is not listed as either "St Barts" or "St Barth" in their computer system and this can easily give one of their employees enough of a headache that your package may be delayed.

Bart,

Thank goodness, no. I try to do it as little as possible, but they need a makeover at least once a year. I failed in the scheduled maintenance of my favorite steed last year and have just discovered the headset bearings are broken, a condition that could have caused a catastrophic event. YUK!

I used USPS once and it took 16 weeks for the box to get to Marius! It went to Europe first and then to Guadeloupe and finally arrived.

Part deux or shall we say part aaaaaargh. Went to FedEx, and it met or exceeded my expectations. Waited 10 minutes to be taken care of. Then the person 1st told me - "can't find it." Then it was, "Here it is. I found it. It's in the UK." Bottom line - $135 to mail the $50 umbrella or I can do it economy. Such a deal. It takes longer, and it's only $125. Lynn, I think I'll drive it down your way and send it with you!!!

I'm surprised you don't just do it all yourself!!

Bart,

I don't have the knowledge or the spare parts to do the makeover necessary to stay safe. Saying that, I can do brakes, tires, etc. Headsets, freewheels, and the like are a bit exotic for my ability.

The other thing is that I have a home to maintain down here, and that takes plenty of my time.

Deb, that would be fine except --- we do carryon!

Why don't you try UPS?

See you in a few weeks!!!

I'm going to still try UPS and DHL. You two and all you other lucky ones already there, enjoy. T minus 27 days for us, and it can't come soon enough. Too darn cold on the east coast this winter. Hopefully, unlike the past two years, we won't be challenged by cancellations because of weather.

Just got our deposit bill from Villa manager. They recommended Fed Ex and showed the address as follows:

Bla Bla Bla Company (Yes, that's the real name)
VITET
97133 St-Barthélemy
FWI

If that's the real name of the company, I applaud them. One venture we had a few years ago was incorporated as "Doofi are I." (Is "doofi" really the plural of doofus?)

As for shipping. UPS is unbeatable in the states. FedEx seems like the only way to go for the Carib. DHL was the only one that would deliver to Iraq (as a favor, we would ship sensitive, personal stuff via DHL to strange places. Always perfect. Their USA delivery was abominable.)

WOW! Just checked with Fed Ex, and to send the property manager a check for our villa, in the smallest FedEx envelope (6 ounces or less), USING my company account, is $45.74! There must be a better (cheaper) way, but I don't think property manager accepts credit cards, or at the least, they are certainly trying to avoid them. Has anyone else had a similar situation?

the exponential increase in shipping stuff to and from, with both DHL and FedEx is the reason we have stopped buying rhum and cigars and having them shipped here in between trips....there was a time when the rates were somewhat high but certainly not prohibitive like they are now...

also I cannot imagine a resort property manager not capable of taking credit cards

On another note, Fedex international customer service said that I needed to add Guadalupe to the address, as that is how they find St. Barthelemy in their computer?

Bla Bla Company
VITET
97133 St-Barthélemy
Add "Guadalupe" here or after FWI?
FWI
