First timers' honeymoon in September

Thanks we'll check them out!

We've been quite happy with the Creperie that is open seemingly all day every day, and had dinner at Pipiri Palace yesterday, which was quite good. Their Fois Gras Maison was amazing, the creole foods they had was also quite good, nice atmosphere. Figured we'd try la reparie maybe, but m&p and esprit sound better.

Thanks again.

Le Repaire is our go-to place for comfort food, and breakfast or ice tea in the afternoon. noisy these days from the construction site next door so dinner is better.. It's good as well...

One of the few places you can get a carafe of wine

I can't say enough good things about L'Esprit. At this time of year they offer a limited prix fixe menu, with a choice of 3 appetizers, 3 mains, and 3 desserts. It's not a lengthy menu, but it's definitely worth a visit.

If you're looking for a lunch spot, try Coté Port, on the far side of the harbor. If you're partial to goat cheese and shrimp then consider the Salade Pilou, a salad with grilled shrimp, warm goat cheese, and a bacon dressing. It comes in both a full and half (demi) size, and has been a menu staple in Hervé's restaurants for years.

Kevin, as I prepare to fast you are pushing all my SBH buttons.

Amy, my son is headed up tomorrow to your neighborhood (NYC) and will be joining some of his Jewish friends in the traditional break fast meal tomorrow evening. Does this meal have a special name?

It is called the Break Fast.

My favorite bagel aWith cream cheese and lox, tomato slice and thin slice of Vidalia sweet onion. We also have Herring in cream and onion sauce, white fish, egg salad, tuna salad, macaroni salad, a cheese platter etc etc.

That first cup of coffee at six or so..PRICELESS,

Dessert.ice. Cream, apple crumb cake, and the family favorite seven layer cake

Amy has described what is called a "dairy" meal, as in the kosher tradition, milk and meat don't go at the same meal, and in extreme cases, such as my grandmother's back in the day, not even in the same kitchen. Our Break Fast is more "equal opportunity" these days as no one actually keeps kosher in our crowd in Philadelphia (a group that has been breaking the fast together since the 1950s -now includes up to 4 generations), so we have a meat table with "cold cuts" of pastrami, corned beef, roast beef, and white meat turkey for making sandwiches on double seeded corn rye or pumpernickel. The other table is the lox, white fish, white fish salad, sable, and salmon with bagels and cream cheese. Even though the milk and meat are in the same meal, it's still "kosher style" in that such items as pork, shrimp, lobster, filet mignon, are verboten...

...and the men all have a shot of slivovitz when they come in from temple to break the fast.. coffee comes with dessert !

Just so that others don't drive around thinking they are optically challenged looking for it, L'esprit closed its doors and reopened as Meat and Potatoes. Same chef and whatnot, but a different menu.

Hmmm, I'm thinking this is not correct. These two restaurants are near each other and it's dark back there. Easy to get confused.

Hmmm. That doesn't seem probable.

Right, but the chef from the original Esprit de Saline moved up the street to open Meat & Potatoes in the space that was once Pacri and before that it was a Creole restaurant called Le Gommier... we had a very nice dinner at M&P the other night..

....so that left Esprit open for Jean-Claude Dufour, formerly of Eden Rock, to open his eponymous restaurant, which is for my money one of the best on the island...and I love the garden setting and watching JC cooking in the kitchen...

...the chef at M&P goes by JC, so it can be a little confusing!

I'm thinking you didn't go far enough up the road.
