First night for dinner on the island party of 4

It depends on what you’re looking for and the expected grind of your travel day.

After a long travel day I’ve always preferred somewhere laid back on my first night. Ever since Andy’s Hideaway closed, and Les Bananniers changed hands, that could be Eddy’s, it could be Le Repaire, or it could be a simple meal at Arawak Café.

If I’ve chosen to spend the night in San Juan and take a morning flight to St Barth then I’m more willing to go upscale and have dinner at Tamarin or L’Esprit.

Thanks for the info we took a seven year sabbatical when we bought our home in Florida. We are bringing two of our grown children and spouses this time. We have such great memories & we want to share the St Barts experience with them. Arrive via Tradewinds 9am ish. So not a hectic travel day. Loved Andy’s Santa Fe & Vietnam. Guess we are looking for similar vibe for our family. Looking forward to coming back mid November.

. . . laid back and not necessitating a long drive followed by an Arthurian quest for a parking spot

Timing is the key. Several spaces in the municipal lot open up shortly after the evening ferry arrival (8:05PM), making parking for dinner at Repaire or Arawak Café easier. For lunch, arrive at the lot shortly after 1PM, when the shop girls go home (or to the beach) for lunch.

Le Crêperie is a short walk, and Eddy’s isn’t much farther. Oubli Bar and La Cantina are options too, but likely with cigarette smoke. .

30+ years we made our first trip to Cassis as a day excursion from our stay in the Luberon. We arrived midday and made our way to Cassis' famed roches blanches (a sloping white limestone shelf formation a couple of meters above the sea) for a bit of sunning. We were soon joined by nicely dressed shop girls from town on their lunch break, who proceeded to strip down to monokinis and work on their tans.
I made the observation to Mme Cassidain that "I like this place"

Exactly. The same thing happens on St Barth.

It’s been said here before that Eddy’s is a great first dinner of the trip to get in the island spirit and I agree with this. Just bring your bug spray.
Agree with the assessment of Eddy’s as “a great first dinner” . . . bug spray is available at end of the bar (bartender “Tad” will give it to you . . . just step outside of the adjacent gate so that it doesn’t spread to food of nearby diners).

I agree with Eddie’s for first night and Eddie’s is our last night as well since their opening. For some reason, the little skeeters don’t bug me in St. Barths. They make me crazy in New York, but they don’t bug me in St. Barth for some inexplicable reason. Maybe it’s because I’m in paradise and in my happy place

That’s a great bonus, being bug free! Good for you, Charlie.

We had so many first and last night dinners with our sons growing up at the Hideaway...Andy was the greatest...my sons loved the pizza and mussels...I think the mussels were the best we ever had....you know it's good, when half the restaurants were locals...and you could talk to them and tell them how much you loved their island and the people..

Thanks for the suggestions we were annual visitors until 2018. Life kinda got in the way. Coming in early November for about 2 weeks bringing four of our adult kids so that they can start their own SBH memories. We are staying at grand Galet as always. We do miss Andy’s, Santa Fe & La Vietnam. Please forgive any misspelling.
Quick question does Alexa work on island? We have vpn wifi & 110 outlet. Do we need anything else. Really looking forward to sharing St Barts with the kids.

I'm not sure how vpn's work . . . don't use one. Personally, my internet provider is ATT, and I get its services on SBH through an International Calling Plan, which has to be arranged before leaving the US. With the Plan -- and local internet -- I seem to be able to do everything that I can do in the US.

Enjoy your return to the island . . . I'm sure that you & family will have a great time!

Maybe John can add to the question as he has responded in the past about VPN usage on St. Barth. I am with you about AT&T, it works perfect for me each trip together with wifi at the Villa and other various spots on the Island
