Fireworks in Lorient this evening

SBH Insider
We were first alerted to the fireworks by our dog who ran as fast as she could into the closet before the first pop...but then we looked out and saw an impressive fireworks display, timed perfectly in-between the rain clouds. This show went on for a while which was nice to watch but of course the dogs thought otherwise! I hope I am able to figure out how to post a photo and/or video...

They were beautiful and lasted around 15 minutes. It was almost like we could reach out and touch them. Sorry about the doggies Jamie. We were thinking of you guys.

Did see a video burst…quite nice. We get the Sarasota Bay fireworks right in our 18th floor view….we don’t have to tilt our heads at all.

I do feel badly that pets often quake and get so upset.

Hi Amy!
Usually we are prepared for the fireworks around the holidays and when the planned birthday/wedding/engagement, etc celebrations are in the local news or posted on the Facebook forum(s) - and I could have missed it - so pet owners and the local vets can plan or text those of us a heads-up who have skittish animals when it comes to fireworks. I saw two posts on the St Barts Facebook animal forums last night about animals escaping and now missing due to the fireworks. That’s not to say the pets should have that ability to escape but one dog in particular, not known to be able to jump the owner’s high fence, did in fact find his super powers and is still missing.

Usually when Bella sprints into the back of the closet and shakes uncontrollably it is the pre-earthquake rumble she detects before we feel it. Since we also live in Rancho Santa Fe, CA some of the year, she is our clue when there is a rumble…we get quite a few tremors in northern San Diego and Bella is keen to let us know. Last night my husband immediately said “earthquake” as Bella zoomed by but then we heard the pops and looked outside to the lovely event. We just wrapped Bella in a towel and hold her….all good! Our other little dog, Iris, is severely epileptic and on a whole pharmacy of drugs so she rather enjoyed the lights and sounds once we held her and reassured her (with treats) this was great fun…no seizures thankfully! Bella is a little smarter and wasn’t convinced by the treat program so she stayed wrapped in the blanket for a good hour! I think she also detects the smell in the air so we had to wait a while…but no vet visits or tramadol so all good!

You and David are terrific caring caregivers for those LUCKY DOGS. Looks like all went well and you were there and prepared. Well played!

Miss seeing you

The fireworks were tremendous. My brother and his wife were joining us, for their first trip to island, to celebrate his 60th on the 22nd. He believes they were for him. I reinforced that perception. The tremendous weather this week have made them love the island, already.

We miss you both too! It was sad because quite a few pets went missing and the vet said he wasn’t given the usual “heads up” this time either. I hope in the future when firework display permission is granted that the information will once again appear in the news so everyone can prepare and enjoy.

On another note and in line with “Lionsgate”…. Our latest grandson was born at 2am on January 22 so we naturally decided the fireworks were all for him to welcome him into the world!

Our kids were so happy with the timing of the new little one because Mikey (who just had the baby 2 days ago) is now a Marine pilot but he deploys overseas in a week (for a month)…I don’t know if we ever told you and Phil the story about when Mikey, his older brother and his high school buddies would run up the old Caramuche hill road (this was before Irma) all the way to the villa with cases of beer overhead, in the rain (timed for when it would rain) because they knew we wouldn’t be out driving much in the rain…and they figured no-one would say anything…well…our neighbor would later tell us that he used to offer the kids a ride but they turned it down. That was back in the day when there was a store where Pati SBH is now… now the kids are all successful, still running and in shape, hardly drink any alcohol, and they are having kids but the grandparents have all the stories (and photos)!

Hope you and Phil are doing well and we miss you! Give our best to Phil!

I get a kick of these kinds of coming of age stories.
Mazal Tov on your new addition. Even better good newsworthy story.
