End of May visit - Day 1

First full day, yesterday felt like a bonus! Had a leisurely breakfast in the villa, which was to be our morning ritual without exception all week. Meandered on down to Anse St Jean to swim, walk the beach, and build up our hunger for our 12:30 Nikki Beach reservation. Tracey did a little shopping and bought a really cute bikini and sarong, which she would debut later in the week!

Nikki Beach was fun, always enjoy the people watching and the lively Sunday vibe. The guy with the sax added a really nice extra flair to the afternoon, and it was fun but not too rowdy (wouldn't have minded a bit more rowdy but we realize this isn't high season, so we'll take the tradeoff for fewer crowds!). I must say the food at Nikki does not disappoint. We had a rainbow roll and a wahoo sashimi, then I saw a crab meat and shrimp topped guacamole walk by to another table and had to have it and thank god I did, it was fantastic! Ordered a lovely light Chateau Minuty which was a perfect compliment to the afternoon.
After lunch it started to rain pretty hard so we ducked into Le Piment to sit at the bar and wait it out with a Caribe. We enjoy the very French feeling of Le Piment, and the air was heavy but the beer was cold. The rain was a slight downer but it didn't last and it made for a gorgeous sunset from the infinity pool at the villa. We toasted with a little more Rose (this report is beginning to have a slight alcohol theme to it... sorry :) )

Dinner was at Pearl Beach, so it was back in the Jimmy for the short drive to St Jean again. No problem parking (yay off season!), and although you can't beat the location right on the beach, the food was a little underwhelming. Not bad mind you, just not spectacular. My grilled lobster was nice if unexceptional, and the vanilla rum shots at the end were a nice digestif. Pearl Beach is such a beautiful setting, and I think there were maybe three other people in the place.
Love how we were falling back in love with this island all over again, such a fun day and so glad to be back. Happy to see that much has not changed in 9 years.

Pearl Beach is comfort food and a fun ambiance / setting. "Gourmet" has nothing to do with it!
Yes, true as we now know. Certainly no complaints. I think our recollection of years ago at Tom's Beach had us expecting something different, but anytime somebody brings me a lobster out of the tank and it subsequently ends up grilled and on my plate, well thats a pretty good night in my book :)

Never had Minuty’s top of the line 281 rosé. Their Or et Rose quite nice too.
Visited the Chateau a few weeks ago for a tasting. The 281 is nice. Asked what was the significance and they said it was the Pantone color of the label! Been collecting the annual designer bottles (we have four of them - two bought here at home, one on SBH and the latest one, this visit). Here's a photo of all of them.
