Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

No question that Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters helped popularize that chord progression. Of course we all know that the classic "call response" progression came from enslaved africans on plantations. When you listen to modern guitarists, you are hearing a hundred and fifty years of echos transposed from voices to guitars.

Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

All popular music is about money.

That is why Mother Teresa died poor talking about poverty while Our Hero Singers die rich singing about poverty.

Hey, I am a capitalist: Sing on greedy do-gooders, sing on!

Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

yeah and some guy named Hendrix certainly changed the way we listened to music as well.....the basic blues chord progression that Led Zep, the Stones and a gazillion others use in their songs, i.e E-A B7 came to them from Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters

Mike, I love Hendrix, too. I don't think he had the impact of the others, though. I think he probably would have had he stuck around longer.

Either way, I don't think we can solve this argument for about 50 years. Bookmark this thread and, I'll meet you here then.....

Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

eddie ...well he took it in such a different untested direction.....that to me it makes him extremely influential...but I see your point.....

and yes...I can discuss this all night and I have work to do...so lets do it in 50- years...LOL

Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

You need to reread it. He even says his songs sounded better in the studio than on CD. He's not talking about performers or material. He's talking about bad technology.

No eddie, I read it perfectly and I also watch Entertainment Tonight, LOL, just kidding, I'm reading between the lines!! (and it's what I do), you do not look like Bob Dylan, sound like Bob Dylan and be as successful as Bob Dylan without an Axis II Personality Diagnosis...he was indeed nodding to himself with this comment...and he's so good at it you barely noticed;)

Hey, only ten tickets left for the Dylan show this sunday in Manchester, NH.

Ninety bucks each.

The fortune my friends, is singing to the wind
The fortune is singing to the wind.

Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

Okay, explain it to me:

Where does a fellow with one of the worst voices in rock history get off being so fussy about how bad everything being recorded today sounds?

He has NEVER sounded good. So what's new today?

First and foremost, Mother Teresa did not die poor and is richer than either you or I will ever be, unless you're a Saint and I don't know it.

second: American Idol money is not about music.

Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

Well, I think most successful artists are Type A personalities. But you are putting words in his mouth. I've read other interviews with Dylan, regarding digital technology, where he says the same thing. Even more vocal, in his disdain, is Neil Young. He insists his music is released on vinyl before CD. Says he wants the public to "hear it right".

I dont know whether you mean in earthly treasure or heavenly but I shall accept your assertion either way.

American Idol is about money?

Well that's it for me! I'm through!

Back to the NFL - a show about something pure such as sports!

Thanks.

(Hint: If it's on TV or the radio, it's about The Benjamins)

Well...

Nah, I wont go there.

OK, Okay, maybe I am over-analyzing (but I don't think so), anyway, RockStar Supernova is distracting me.....LOL, aren't all of you on the edge of your seat....Dave Navarro is dating Jenna Jameson...rockstar meets pornstar....maybe it was their personality disorders I was thinking about...LOLOLOLOL

Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

There is something quite sad about "superstars" who allow themselves to be followed by a camera 24/7 - even into the loo.

Put in your time at the office/studio and then go home and get a life.

OK. I'll try to explain it: Regardless of how you feel about his voice (and I DO understand how some people loathe it) it should be recorded properly. It should sound as close to the original as possible, for better or worse. When a guitar string is plucked, there is a beginning to the note (attack) and an end (decay). Because of the limitations of digital recording, these are often "chopped" by the sampling process and, timing errors (jitter) in the digital stream. While these errors last only microseconds, audiologists have proven that it does register in the human brain.

Yes. I accept that.

If Dylan intends to sound as he does on his recordings, then that is part of who he is.

Hey, I admire the guy even if I am not a fan. Smart fellow, good writer. Can't really sing but his message overcomes that.

As a capitalist, I admire success. Props to Bob for milking what he has for all it's worth. We should all do so well.

Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

Oh geez, IV, I hope you're not taking me seriously...I deal with such messed up real life cases all day that when I get home, ridiculous-ness hits the spot.

I think most of the Supernova contestants are better than the American Idol contestants. They play instruments and write songs.

Re: Dylan has been talking to eddie

Yes, I am. A little "Fire" now. Who you got going all the way? I think it's gonna come down to Dilana and Magni.
