Completely overwhelmed

Every trip I've ever taken over the last 30 years, I have been the trip planner-whether it be my husband and I, our family, or a group of couples. I have never been so overwhelmed as I have been now researching the villas/hotels of St Bart.
I have been in contact with Normandie and also looking at about 20 villas! This is our first trip. We have a budget of up to $700 or so per night, but not into wasting money, either!
Will be in St Barts for 4 nights in high season. Won't do much if any cooking. Like to walk, eat, drink, take in the local scene.
Any suggestions on particular villas/hotels?

New to this forum, so I hope I'm doing this correctly -
we will be in St Martin for one week, then St Bart's Feb 28-March 4, just my husband and I.

Lori, you made a very good planning decision simply by finding your way to this site and posing your question. No need for worries . . . You have a good budget and ample time. Just sit back and take in the comments and suggestions for a few days. Maybe keep open to shifting some st Maarten time over to st barths . . .

Lori on the Main page to the right are featured hotels and villas. Cassidain is right about St Jean. It's the place to stay is you want walking and drink and the scene. Take a look at Les Ilets and Village St. Jean. However, whatever you decide you better do it fast. Your dates are very popular.

Andy and Cassidain have given you great advice. Four nights in high season are tough for a villa rental so if you haven't already booked in St. Martin you might want, as DaveM recommended, to add days in St. Barth instead. La Normandie is a terrific hotel choice if rooms are available. You can walk to Lorient Beach from there. However, You will need a car to reach restaurants in St. Jean and Gustavia.

The St. Jean Village or Tropical Hotels in St. Jean are also good options, as mentioned. St. Jean has several restaurants and a lovely beach. In Gustavia, the Sunset Hotel would put you near many restaurants and within walking distance of Shell Beach.

You will need a rental car to explore the island;there are taxis available but it is much nicer to tour at your own pace and enjoy places/restaurants around the island. Enjoy your first trip to St. Barth...there is nothing like it!

Stick to a hotel. My choice would be Tom Beach or Les Ilets, to be on the beach. Although, Tropical was a lovely place to stay. Save a little and go up the hill. Don't be overwhelmed. Planning is the fun part.

For hotels, I am considering Normandie, Les Ilets and Emeraude Plage. We have traveled extensively and have found that we like stand-alone cottages best - and privacy. I have been emailing back and forth with French Carribbean and there are some options for villas for the 4 days. Although we'd like to stay longer, we are spending 7 days in St Martin with friends, then they are heading home and we are coming to St Barts. Unfortunately we don't have the time to take a full two weeks.

Hôtel Le Village Saint-Jean has cottages in your price range available in March. Booked solid January/February. It enjoys the support of some ardent partisans.

I contacted Wimco via email and got a call from Ben shortly after. Very nice fellow - waiting for some information from him.
In the meantime, I am looking at these villas - Adamas, Harry's Place, Lorient Sunset and Voyage. Does anyone have any input on any of these villas?
Thank you!

We did the same thing you are doing in 2000, St Martin then St. Barth. We haven't returned to St. Martin and we have been back to St. Barth 15 times!

We usually rent a villa but we have stayed at Emeraude Plage before and liked it. If you have a problem with minimum days I would definitely recommend them. You can stay there for as little as 1 night. They are right on the beach between Eden Rock and Le Tom. We found them to be less expensive than any other motels on the beach in St. Jean. The room wasn't large but was very nice. We stayed in Cottage 1 on the beach with, I believe, some efficiency things. I believe it is currently around $700 a night. You can walk from there down the beach to La Plage or Eden Rock to eat and also into St. Jean where there are more restaurants like Andy's Hideaway, which is a must. Emeraude also has a restaurant but it may have limited service, I can't remember.

Like the others have said, rent a car even if you stay in St. Jean. The island is very easy to explore on your own.

I haven't stayed in any of the villas you mentioned but have used Wimco often and have been very pleased with them.

Let us know what you choose and please give us an update on your trip.

Well, typical of my husband, he has changed his mind and now we are going to stay the whole week (I'm not complaining)! Ben got back to me and I think it comes down to FLO, BBE, and MJS (also considering Adamas which is through another agent).

Any feedback? Thanks!
