Child Friendly Restaurants

jfkjfk

SBH Insider
We're bringing our 2 1/2 year old daughter with us for a two week holiday at the end of November. In the past, we often frequented Bartolomeo at the Guanahani for dinner as they have a casual outdoor seating area which made for easier dining with children. As they're now closed until mid December, we're wondering if any of you can suggest relatively child-friendly restaurants for dinner. We're not looking for burger/pizza places but fine restaurants that can accommodate without a problem. We would go early in the evening before the bigger crowds arrive and would call in advance to advise that we have a child and insure it's ok. Any suggestions?

Hi jfkjfk!

I have seen little ones welcomed at virtually every restaurant on the island -- going early would be a plus. Wall House, Eddy's, Maya's, Bonito -- I would try them all.

I agree with John. I see children every place we eat. A lot of places open at 7 so look at Kevin's Restaurant list to see who opens earlier.

I would suggest you send a PM to Skeeter...always brings his wonderful twins.

La Route des Boucaniers. Open air. On the harbor in Gustavia. Something for everybody on the menu. Ice cream for kids. Open for both lunch and dinner.

Not the finest restaurant on the island but my kids always liked it and we have had good times and good meals there.

I can't think of a single restaurant where we felt our kids were out of place.

You know your daughter. Kids have good days and bad days, so let that dictate where you go.

I can't tell you how many times our boys have slept in the Wall House. With our appetizers, they would have their main meal. With our main meal, they would have dessert, then fall asleep letting us finish our meal in peace and quiet. (Honestly we sometimes miss that now that they are older!)

PM me if you have specific questions.

MikeR and I are not to touch this one. OOOps I did. Kids will adjust and welcome change. Introduce them to new foods. You will be amazed at how fast they become foodies.

Amy, chime in here.

Snails in garlic is a killer. Pick out the good stuff from "lobsters". Eat the Tomlie.

Yucky but it tastes good with butter and garlic.

They will soon be done with burgers and fries. There is always the old but GOOD stand by at Le Select.

Super good tastes for your young ones.

Let them watch the fileting of fish at the table. Not to be forgotten.

My kids loved it from 1 - 3 and now 14 and 17. My 17 yr old will not eat anything "plain". He wants the good stuff.

Smelly cheese, smoked salmon, capers, onions. ONLY fresh bagettes.

Go for it.

The resteraunts are MOST accomodating.

PM me for further info if I have not already bored you.

Best,

Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions folks. I also understand that hotel restaurants are always a good bet for being "child-ready" as they frequently have so many families as guests.

We've been to sbh with our boys since they were a year and half and most restaurants are very accommodating to the kids. We usually arrive right at seven and if available ask for a table that has a padded bench because by 8 our kids would be asleep. Now that they are 6 and 9 we bring the iPad with movies and head phones, order their dinner when we sit down and relax. Not very PC but they kids are so quite we can enjoy ourselves. Here are some recommendations
- Andys our favorite
- Nikkis - beach and benches. I think they are only open for dinner on thurs
- Tamarin - lots of room to run around and some beds/couches. Open for lunch and dinner. Also has a parrot!
- Bonito has benches although we didn't take the kids thanks to Lance and Libby
- Pimet - has tvs, great food but small so not a lot of room to move around
Have a great time!

All great suggestions. I would add: Harbour's Saladerie, Gloriette, O'Corail, Le Tamarin. As mentioned, since you plan to go early, most restaurants are very accommodating. Our grandchildren have been welcome at most places and have thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine and experiences. You'll never regret starting your little one on the St. Barth track at a young age!

I think this is the best answer. My son has been loved and welcome everywhere. Pa Cri, La Plage, Andy's, ER Sandbar, Eddy's...take your pick.

Thank You!!! He IS adorable. Obviously being his father it is not an unbiased opinion. But I thank you for confirming my feeling ;)

Lena has been welcomed to every single restaurant on the island we have gone to with her, since she was 1, and she is 7 now.....some restaurants had creative ways of providing a child booster seat, like stacking three together...but we never felt unwelcomed

Scottman,

Loved your post! I think "your" kids have gone to sleep on benches or chairs at most every restaurant on the island over the years. Restaurants are most accommodating by serving kids meals with the first course ....so they are "fat, dumb, and happy" and can watch a movie or go to sleep while the parents and "grands" enjoy dinner!
