Casino coming to Gustavia ????????

Re: Locate the Casino Contest

Rosita,

Shucks, mon ami, I was dreaming about hearing the king of the casinos -

A casino to be built in Gustavia with parking where????? I'm not sure that makes any sense, but stranger things have happened. As far as the need to build a new resto, I expect there will be lots of existing restos on the market after this season. Most of them I've seen are struggling.

I've got a thought. Le Diamant is big enough and hardly ever does any serious business in its existing incarnation, so it's a perfect venue for the casino conversion. There's also plenty of parking area for the tour busses from St. Kitts and Anguilla!

Tim- I think some "big money" is at Diamant already.
BTW- just how much did SBH lose because of it's split with France. I didn't think it was that much- like 1.5 mil unless there are other factors too.

I believe they lost 1.7M Eur.

That is exactly what I recall.

Using dollars: About an average of $3000/villa (30 weeks x $100 tax) should be generated annually per villa average, so it would actually take about 800 villas to generate that much in Euros for the COM, THUS the need for Car Taxes, Parking Meters, Hotel Taxes and much more.

Ric

~PS, no Casinos. I'd lay 20:1 Odds against them coming to SBH...no desire, no room & no need. Perhaps an alternative idea would be 'floating casinos' or Gambling Ships. Then here comes the Cruisers.

One more thing: I have no clue how many rental villas are on the Island, but would guess the number is 350-400 or so, way less than is necessary to carry the entire COM bill. Add in the Hotel Tax, it still wouldn't get you there. Ric

PS~expect more taxes

I believe they lost 1.7M Eur.

Well that's not great deal of money. I bet they far exceeded that on the villa tax.

That is 34M Euros of rentals/rooms. Over 52 weeks would be 653K per week. If the average price is 5K that would yield 130 villas continuously rented. Seems like the 5% wouldn't be enough to cover the 1.7M

Rosita,
Another advantage to living in St. Barths: never knowing about Wayne Newton :)

Re: Locate the Casino Contest

Danke Schoen, Darling, Danke Schoen.
Thank you for all the joy and pain.
Picture shows, second balcony, was the place we'd meet,
Second seat, go Dutch treat, you were sweet.

Danke Schoen, Darling, Danke Schoen.
Save those lies, Darling don't explain.
I recall, Central Park in fall.
How you tore your dress, what a mess, I confess.
That's not all.

Danke Schoen, Darling, Danke Schoen.
Thank you for walks down Lover's Lane.
I can see, hearts carved on a tree.
Letters inter-twined, for all time, yours and mine, that was fine.

Danke Schoen, Darling, Danke Schoen.
Thank you for seeing me again.
Though we go on our seperate ways,
Still the memory stays, for always, my heart says, Danke Schoen.

Danke Schoen, Oh Darling, Danke Schoen.
I said, Thank you for seeing me again.
Though we go- on our seperate ways,
Still the memory stays, for always, my heart says, Danke Schoen

Re: Locate the Casino Contest

No thanks for that Tim. I think he is more in the vein of a Garrison Keillor. :)

Oh, not to worry, Ric. They'll have a bunch of one armed bandits at Le Select and at Chez Andy's that will take care of any shortfalls lol.

The way I see it, the main advantage to having a a casino on St B is that eventually these guys will show up.

Fort Oscar will be an interesting landing spot for them.

What was proposed at the Conseil was the proposition of opening a "Cercle de Jeux" in St Barths. This mainly allows people to play poker against each other in a controlled environment. The place that organises this will take a percentage of each pot and will split the profits with the Collectivity. This is technically not a Casino because you are playing against one another and not against an establishment. There are quite a few of these in France and they are tightly controlled by the Federation Francaise de Jeux.

Don't worry, it would be near impossible to open a Casino in St Barth.
