READY FOR CARNIVAL?
by Armandine Badey-Bettembourg 02/11/2024
Only two days left to prepare your costume and your camera for the unmissable, festive event of the Saint Barthélemy Carnival. This Tuesday from 2 p.m. the procession will parade through the streets of Gustavia with King Vaval at its head. It will be followed by the nine carnival groups who have registered their names on the list of parade entertainers: Te t Ansanm, Ti Ouana Salsa, Cho Douvan (Ascco), The Youngz, Golden Team, Caribbean Girls, Pineapple Girls, N.I.B. and the Dreamers who will bring up the rear. Departing from the quay of the Port de Commerce, the procession will take its usual route and will travel through the streets of Gustavia throughout the afternoon, going around La Pointe, and will end on the quai Général de Gaulle, place dispersal of the demonstration. During the parade, several five-minute choreographic breaks will be organized by the floats: in front of the pharmacy, at Cours Vendôme, on rue de la République, in front of the Pif Paf kiosk and near La Poste.
Free shuttles
While the access roads to Gustavia will be closed from 1 p.m., free shuttles will provide “round trip” transfers between Gustavia and Saint-Jean from 1 p.m. until the end of the event, with the pick-up points following stops: Parking de la République - Public Industrial Zone - Parking U - Fire station - the Saint-Jean stadium - the beach car park - return to Gustavia by Public.
Ash Wednesday
As tradition, Brûlé Vaval will close the festivities on Wednesday February 14. Throughout the day, the effigy of the King of Carnival will be on display at the corner of the Le Select bar in Gustavia. To your selfies! Then at 7 p.m., a procession will set off from the Select towards Grands Galets (Shell Beach) where, around 8:30 p.m., after the installation of security barriers on the beach, the ephemeral sovereign will be consumed by the flames.
