Cardboard Recycling

Good morning all,

I have a large quantity of cardboard that I need to dispose. Is there a recycling centre on the island where I can take it? I don’t imagine I can leave it with the regular trash….

There is a drop off in Public next to the incinerator. I’ll search around for hours and post if I find anything.

I would not depend on info from 2015 for anything- pre Irma and all.

There is a recycling center on the island. In Public, it’s often referred to as “the dump.” I suggest going there . . . they take just about everything. I doubt that cardboard would present any challenge.

Hatz has raised a valid question.

I've seen cardboard recycling mentioned as an issue, mostly for commercial establishments. I don't recall ever seeing a specific solution.

I suspect that Hatz's cardboard will be burned in the island's incinerator, and play a part in supporting the island's desalinization plant.

Supporting the desal plant may not be the greenest solution but it beats the heck out of open burning.

yes the "dump" in public is the best place to take it.. if just a few cartons, you can cut them up and put in a regular trash bag and they take it but if a large quantity as you mentioned, the dump is better.. if you are a homeowner, by chance, you get a card to use at the incinerator center so there is no charge.. if you are not a homeowner, perhaps ask someone who has a card to go with you...

here is the most recent info I can find on hours:

For professionals:
• Monday-Friday 6am-11am
• Saturday 6am-10:45am

For taking garden debris and large objects:
• Monday-Friday by appointment 6am-11am

For individuals:
• Monday-Friday 6am-11:45am
• Saturday 6am-10:45am

There is someone on-site on Sundays and holidays for individuals to take only for household trash or separated glass and metal for recycling from 8am-11am

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. My wife and I are busy setting up our house in St Jean and we will have lots more cardboard to get rid of.
