Bijou de la mer

SBH Insider
Does anyone know the status of this lovely shop? When we were last on the island, it was shuttered up the entire time. No one around the shop had any explanation of why it was closed, or when it might reopen.

I recall the shop was open when last on island--late November. I've had trouble finding them open, esp in the morning, as their hours can be hit or miss. I think best time to try is later in the day, say btwn 5 and 7?

Chose mine at Les Artisans years ago & had them made into drop earrings & a drop for gold chain, I should wear more often ! Choosing the pearls fun & even now I marvel at making the choices perfectly from so many & so close in shade of colors.

We have some tahitian pearl jewelry that need new leather.

Does anyone on island do this?

Anyone have it done and is it at a cost savings vs buying new?

I have had leather replaced at Bijoux de la Mer, they do an excellent job using high quality leather though it can be pricey. More recently (thanks to a forum friend) I had leather replaced and pearls added to bracelets at Kalinas Perles (next to Baya on rue General de Gaulle) for about half the cost it would have been at Bijoux. They did an excellent job. If I had to choose, I prefer the leather used at Bijoux but am very happy with the quality and workmanship of Kalinas.

As a huge fan of pearl/leather jewelry, it’s definitely worth it to redo the leather versus buying new.

I just had some Australian pearls remade into a double bracelet at Artisans in February. I bought the original piece at Gems, which has since closed.

Joanne and team also made a new piece from two smaller bracelets of Tahitians I had bought years ago and no longer wore. She added some of her handmade silver beads and it’s now my favorite piece.

My total bill was around $600 including the new silver beads.

A friend who visited with us a few years ago bought a simple jade Buddha necklace at Kalinas. The leather broke and they replaced it for about $12.
