Beach Hotel advice

Dear all,

We are planning on coming back to the island in the beginning of December. We are staying at the Christopher for one week and are looking for a beach hotel for another week.

The two options we are considering are Baie des Anges or Les Ilets. Les Ilets seems to be a very popular choice here in the forum and I can’t find much about Baie des Anges…

We love walking at the beach and are a bit hesitant because of the fence at Les Ilets / airport. Is there still some beach left at les Ilets for walking? From the pictures I can only see the stairs that lead into the sea.

Flamands beach is also one of our favorites and having the possibility to walk to Cheval Blanc is a plus. :) But again I can’t find much about Baie other than the restaurant. Is the hotel recommended?

What would you suggest for a couple in their 30s :)

Thank you for your help!

Baie des Anges rooms are very nice, as are those at Les ilets. If you’re looking for beach walks, however, I’d definitely go to Baie des Anges.
Yes, the rooms look lovely and Flamands beach is among our favorites. I am just a bit hesitant as I have not read much about Baie des Anges here in the forum, nor on booking platforms or SBH villa websites. Anyone who has stayed there in the past? If yes, which room type should we book?

Thank you so much for all the help!

Haven’t stayed there, but — as a former hotel owner on SBH — visited their rooms. All are nice. Try to get one on the beach.

We stayed at Baie des Anges this past May for three days and we really enjoyed it. It has been renovated since Irma so everything is updated. We stayed in a “beach front suite”. The bed was extremely comfortable, there was plenty of closet space, and the bathroom was very nice.
It is right on Flammands Beach, our favorite. We would definitely stay here again if we didn’t rent a villa.

We’re at Les Islets right now and absolutely love it! We are staying in their new Ocean View Studio Apartment. Although not right on the beach, it is a short walk down the path. We have a cute terrace with a view of the ocean. Bread and pastries are delivered every day and they also provide coffee and tea. Sun loungers are available on the beach for exclusive use of guests where you can watch the planes arriving and departing. Stairs take you directly into the ocean. They also provide stand-up paddle boards, snorkels, fins, pool noodles, and other toys. They also have a pool on site although we have yet to see anyone there. I guess the lure of the ocean is stronger! This is our first time staying here, and I can unequivocally say that it will not be our last! We have found our home on SBH!

Thank you all so much for your kind replies and help! After careful consideration, we have decided on Christopher and Baie des Anges for our December getaway. Les Ilets informed us about ongoing construction projects on both sides of their property. This would not have been a problem, we just love Flamands beach! :) We are looking forward to our stay in December!

Not sure if it is still relevant, but given your love for beach walks and Flamands Beach, Baie des Anges would likely be the better fit for you.

Thank you Claude! Yes, we booked Baie des Anges for a week and Christopher for 8 nights! Looking forward to being back on the island.

While the stairs into the sea are beautiful, I’ve heard the beach there is a bit more limited for walking. If you're really into beach strolls, Baie des Anges might offer a bit more space for that, though I agree there’s not as much info about it.

I just wanted to share my thanks for all your advice and insights. I spent a week at Baie des Anges in early December and thought I'd share my experience since there's not much info out there.

The location is amazing—right on one of our favorite beaches, Flamands. We stayed in a Beach Front room with a fantastic view, though it wasn’t the most modern or comfy. The little kitchenette on the balcony was a nice touch.

There were some ups and downs during our stay. For example, the beach attendant didn’t show up until 11:00 AM, which was odd for a beach hotel. Before then, we couldn’t get large beach towels or chair pillows. We would have done it ourselves, but that wasn’t an option. It was frustrating since the sun sets around 4:00 PM in December on this part of the beach. On our first day, the receptionist kindly gave us towels and pillows, but on the second day, she said the previous days’ service was an "extra" and we had to wait for the attendant.

Overall, it feels like the hotel relies a lot on its great location but doesn’t really excel in service and maintenance. The hotel has SO much potential, but it seems like they’re not using it fully. Somehow the personal touch was missing… As someone who owns a similar small family property here in Switzerland, I always ensure my guests are fully fully satisfied and check in with them multiple times a day. Here, it felt more like just a place to stay rather than a true holiday getaway. Despite that, we still had a wonderful time on SBH. ☺️i

Thanks for the detailed review. We’ve looked at this option a few times but, for one reason or another, have gone elsewhere. The 11:00 am start time for beach chair service would not be ideal. I know that time is normal at “restaurant only” locations like Nikki, but at a hotel I would much prefer to roll out of bed and go straight to the beach chair. Glad to hear your trip was a success nonetheless.

We love the restaurant there but I do think the property seems to have some neglect in places. (Public restrooms, etc.). Maybe you could share your Swiss property by PM, if you are so inclined..you never know when we might be in the neighborhood 😁!

We also loved the restaurant! Delicious creole food and wonderful team. Please check your PM, if you are ever in Switzerland. 😊

For me, when I was in Sydney, I stayed at the Ibis Styles on Oxford Street Sydney accommodation, and it was perfect for getting around the city and exploring different spots. I loved how close it was to everything, making it easy to hop around without worrying about long commutes.
