The name seems a bit tone-deaf for the West Indies, to me anyway.
The owners are from St. Tropez . . . is it really a surprise that the name is a bit tone-deaf? The name, of course, evokes a colonial era. Perhaps there's a suggestion of the restaurant being a foothold in St. Barths as an outpost in the expanding colony of its owners.

Their marketing seems a bit amateurish to my eye, so I am not surprised by their choice of the name. But I am American of course. We live and breath marketing air.

"in my heart of hearts the Baz Bar I knew can NEVER BE REPLACED."

Truer words never spoken. I've watched a lot of places I've loved - in my hometown and all over the world - come and go. The only time I ever cried was when I learned Baz was closing.

But JM is so happy now! Currently touring all over Vet Nam! Nothing last forever - see Maya's.

I thought of Maya’s too, John. And the elegant feet in the sand lunches at Lafayette Club, though still not developed. . Also Santa Fe, though as far as I know it is still shut down.Hence my disclaimer, THINGS CHANGE. There are losses.

My hope is that new guys in town add to the charm that SBH offered.

Wow, Lafayette Club...I was just thinking about that a few days ago. I. had a blue baseball cap that I lost along the way from there. And Maya's - that was my Thanksgiving tradition. Miss them all too.

I'm happy for JM, of course. But it won't be the same around the harbor.

We enjoyed many a Thanksgiving at Maya’s too.

Funny to think how many times so many of us were in the same room at the same time. (for me, I always had the Dover sole when it was offered, otherwise it was the mahi mahi, with that sweet potato mash.)

Loved Maya’s preparation.

Maya's was famous for its Thanksgiving dinners . . . in part, I'm sure, because Maya's husband is American -- from Nantucket, a microcosm of American development.

Also formerly a great Thanksgiving dinner on the island was The Wall House Restaurant (a fondly remembered, distant memory!) . . . for a couple of years, the folks there -- Franck and Denis, one year . . . then Bernard & Julien another year --

I think of the 4 Thanksgivings we enjoyed there, 3 were at Wall House and the last one at Maya’s.

Enjoyed Maya’s but the Wall House memories for Thanksgiving are strong.
