Anguilla Communication Cut by Rising Sun Yacht

I have friends on Anguilla... a few days ago, the Rising Sun (David Geffen's boat) was anchored in Crocus Bay, and apparently, when they took up the anchor to leave, they snapped the huge fiber cable that basically is the lifeline of all of Anguilla's communications systems. So, no internet, no cable tv, no landlines, no cell phones, no ATMs, no credit card processing, etc. My friend said everything was down for about 10 hours on Saturday, but now some cell service has been restored with FLOW, via microwave service from SXM. It is slow and spotty, but it is something. I have been in communication with her via WhatsApp with her FLOW cell phone. It's a big mess.

Now, Rising Sun is here on SBH. I wonder if they know what has happened?

I wonder if there’s any financial liability to a yacht owner when this happens.

That squiggly line running through the bottom of the marine park is an undersea cable, so they should have avoided it. If they looked at a chart carefully.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this. I would assume there is some liability there considering that this is a high-end yacht with what one would assume a high-end captain and crew. From what I understand, the cable is not marked with signs, but is quite clear (as shown above) in GPS mapping systems.

Things are getting better, but won't be back to normal for some time. I can't imagine the mess this has caused.
