This is a new (to us) place in Marigot, we were able to walk 4 whole minutes to get there. It’s in the former Hotel Villa Lodge 4 Epices property.

On Th, Fr, and Sa nights there is dinner service (otherwise only lunch). Each night is a single menu, entree + plat + dessert for 49€. The week’s menus are found via a QR code in Le News on Thursday. It takes a little effort to go here. Reservations are via WhatsApp.

We have been intrigued because the chef chooses each menu based on what’s available and it seemed like the kind of place we would gravitate to. It seats about 40 people, one communal table and about 10 tables for 2-6 people. There were 10 diners tonight.

The menu for tonight was prawns and shrimp, chicken cocotte “grandmere”, and colonel. I don’t care for prawns, so we texted if alternative was possible and they gave me some tartar instead. It was tasty, the shrimps were reported as yummy. Funny - they didn’t say what fish they served me and I’m not a fishianado so couldn’t tell you. Bread from pt colombe was plentiful and refilled often without having to ask.

Now, if you call a dish “grandmere”, we are both probably in for whatever it is. This was a braised 1/2 chicken, cut up, in a very light mushroom cream sauce with small potatoes. The chicken fell off the bone, the potatoes were perfect, the sauce was sopped up with bread, it was just really really good simple food. It’s surprisingly hard to get simple food done well. We both loved it, and it was infinitely better than the chicken we had elsewhere two nights ago.

The wine list is fab. Over 7 pages of whites (I can’t have red), and very reasonably priced. We were between a Beaune and a Mersault and the staff rec’d Mersault and paid attention to its temperature. (the Beaune was more expensive). There’s one waitress and a bar/wine guy and that’s it. Both were terrific at what they do. Did I mention the best caipirinha I’ve had so far was here? They ask you, “shall we wait to serve the entree until your aperitif is finished?”, “would you like the wine now or in a little bit?” “Would you like to wait a little before dessert or shall we bring it now?”

The dessert was a “colonel”, and being a rube, I had no idea so had to look it up beforehand. It was a lime sorbet, with bites of candied lime zest in it, and a shot of vodka poured over the top, served in a martini glass with a spoon and a straw. Who knew? It was delicious, mostly from the super lime flavor, I don’t know that the vodka added much except alcohol.

Bill came to 268€, and we enjoyed very much. It’s a quick eve, sat down at 8, home by 10. It was a treat to be able to walk!

This isn’t for everyone, as it is out of the way, not a party or dress up scene, and one menu with no choices, but if you like low key, good food, in a pretty room with a playlist going from Sasha Distell (sp?) to Fleetwood Mac to Sade to Liza M singing NYNY to Kung Fu Fighting, maybe check it out. Remember, Le News on Thursday for the QR code. We def will go again.

I've been intrigued by this new concept, and you are the first person I know who has been there! Sounds right up my alley --- good, simple food at a semi-reasonable price. Will definitely have to check it out. Thanks for the report!

We went one night a few months ago with our favorite boulevardier - sort of a soft opening when they were trying out the lunch menu so there was more choice than the evening single menu concept - and found the setting to be very pretty and the food very good... I'd definitely go again...
