airplane hits man taking photo

So glad he is ok. It is easy to loose track of the next set of planes when you are taking photos of the landing. We almost learned that the hard way last trip but were honked at by a local who pointed to the incoming plane...We felt pretty stupid but grateful all the same.

Ed can be called the Miracle Man. He looks pretty good considering...bruises, swelling, stitches...testimony to a never-to-be-repeated (one hopes!) experience. Methinks he might want to buy a lottery ticket with the numbers 012414!

Just saw him at Le Select...his new mantra is "better Ed than dead"." Looks good considering. Meds of choice are rose and frozen peas.

Saw Ed earlier today and he is doing as well as can be expected. I told him about the frozen peas to put on his face. He is a very lucky guy and in no way felt any negative thoughts toward the pilot. Sounds like a low landing as only Islander could explain. Would make one re-think the plane landing pictures I think.......kr

Better Ed than Dead here.
Only in St. Barth can you start at Le Select, take photos of planes landing, get hit, take an ambulance to the hospital and be back at Le Select a few hours later.
The ambulance crew was super. I had ridden my bike to the circle and they locked it up until it could be fetched this morning. My camera was destroyed, but I had insurance on it. I also paid $27 for travel insurance until April 1 which will cover the medical expenses. And all of my friends here have been super great. Even Marius from Le Select who has his own eye problems spoke with me about his concern. One inch to the left or higher and no more photos for me.

I went to Eddy's later and a nice French couple from NYC were at the table next to us. He recognized me because he is the one that took the photo of the plane just before it smacked me. I was knocked out for a while and do not remember all that happened. But, I do know that people in St. Barth are great!

I was not on a car - I only had my bike with me. I was standing on the ground just behind and to the north of the directional sign on the harbor side of the circle. That plane was LOW.

Only in St. Barth!

Here are a few photos that I worked on the past 2 weeks. I was looking for a better one. Maybe next week. DSC01057p_edited-1.jpgDSC01059p_edited-1.jpgDSC01592p_edited-1.jpgDSC01977p.jpgDSC02040p.jpgDSC02140p.jpgDSC02146p.jpg

Ed, glad you survived with minor injuries!

There's something about the shadows in the photo with the car.....:)

Ed, first of all so glad you are ok! On Jimmy Buffett's most recent CD he wrote a song titled " Earls dead, Cadillac for sell". Next time you bump into him you should tell him your story and suggest the title for the new song......."Better Ed than Dead"
again so grateful you're ok

What a wonderful story. One goes to Le Select and has a little toddy. Off to the airport for some photos. A mishap with the Arawak wheel and after a little stitching, the real solution to the problem is back to Le Select and then Eddy's.

Ed, you are a blessed man. This story could've gone in a very different direction. Thankful you are still here with us to recant this tale; a tale that will be shared for many years to come!

I raise a glass to your good fortune. Now, go buy that lottery ticket! :)
