St. Barths Newbie -- Villa Advice

After many trips to the Caribbean, I have finally decided to visit St. Barths. My intial plan was to stay at Eden Rock (as I like all the modern luxuries and conveniences of a 5 star hotel), however some have suggested we stay in Villa with a private pool. My only question is where is the best spot for a luxury Villa.......I would want something close to Salines or Gouverneur Beach but would also like something close to a luxury hotel where I can walk to the bar in the afteroon for lunch or enjoy a frozen drink after some time in the sun......any suggestions? I like the idea of having a private pool but I may not want to pass on all the other luxuries being afforded by a nice hotel.....Please help....

Re: St. Barths Newbie -- Villa Advice

TiniBikini- to get more action on your post, you may want to bring up your villa questions on the villa forum. Since both beaches you mention are on the south/central part of the island, you may wish to pursue a villa in the center of the island (St. Jean ?). The nicer hotel properties are either on the east side of the island (Guanahani, Sereno, Toiny), the center of the island (Eden Rock) or the west side of the island (FP, IDF). No matter where you are on the island, anything is within 20-25 minutes away, so you cant lose.

St Barths is only 8 square miles. Almost by definition, you are close to everywhere from anywhere. Even so, a location that would work for you is Pointe Milou. There are a dozen or more nice villas on PM. We just stayed in SIB DOR (Wimco) and loved it.

Go to Wimco, check out Pointe Milou and get some thoughts and we will give you the skinny as we know it.

Also, IF you want luxury, then I would recommend The Big Five (and a half) as far as hotels:

Le Toiny and Carl Gustaf have private pools or plunge pools respectively.

Some of the rooms at Guanahani have private pools.

Isle de France does not really have that much privacy but is very romantic.

Eden Rock does not have private pools (except for Frangiapani House - a 3BR villa) although several rooms do have private decks. Eden Rock is Uberchic - quite grand.

Le Sereno is "The Half" - bucking for inclusion in The Big Six someday.

Re: St. Barths Newbie -- Villa Advice

One suite on the Rock proper has a small plunge pool, but the best hotel avec pool has to be Le Toiny hands down. I've stayed there once and the room and layout is very private and very comfortable.

Re: St. Barths Newbie -- Villa Advice

Le Toiny is part Villa, part Hotel - a true Votel.

You get the space of a small luxurious villa and all the fixins that come with a top end hotel. Yes, I think staying at Le Toiny would be quite grand.

the Goose is a "Votel" as well...three rooms and private plunge pool

Tinibikini,

The answer to what you seek is certainly at Guanihani in their private villa, surrounded by full service hotel/spa/restos/bars, etc. AND the Hotel is beachfront. The villa and its private pool is in the center, completely private, albeit quite expensive. I've toured it with friends and it is beautiful. They also have 1 & 2BR garden and oceanfront POOL suites.

I've also stayed at the Guanahani villa-ette with the private pool and it is marvelous. I think we stayed in one for our 30th Anniversary.

This fellow visited every afternoon . . .

TiniBikini- to get more action on your post,

rob,

The user name is "tinibikini"...and your saying she needs to do MORE to get more action on her post???

Re: St. Barths Newbie -- Villa Advice

I would suggest a villa with a pool on or very near St. Jean beach, where you can get lunch at Eden Roc or drinks at the fines establishments that dot the beach. The other possibilty would be to get a villa in lower Flammands (as opposed to Haut de Flammands) by the beach, then you could have lunch at either Isle De France or La Langouste, maybe even try to crash Taiwanna. This way you'll get the best of both worlds, villa living and hotel beach/bar access, the only thing you won't get is the views from the hills, which is why I prefer villas with a view. Have Fun Tini!!! BTW... when were you going?

Re: St. Barths Newbie -- Villa Advice

Not that many villas on St Jean beach.

I would recommend ELA with Wimco, a stone's throw from the Isle de France. Only villa on the island with its own tennis court and slap on the beach.

Re: St. Barths Newbie -- Villa Advice

Thanks for all the great information......I am glad that I received some much needed attention in this forum :). I plan to go in August. Any other suggestions will continue to be welcomed!!!

Re: St. Barths Newbie -- Villa Advice

With a handle like TiniBikini you will get plenty of attention.
Except on the beaches where you would be considered overly clothed if you were wearing a TiniBikini.

You're going to scare TiniBikini away before she ever makes it to the island

(After all this sort of attention, wouldn't it be funny TB turned out to be a guy?)

Re: St. Barths Newbie -- Villa Advice

Boys Boys........you shouldnt assume my "handle" (as someone referred to it) refers to my beach attire. I hate to overdress for the beach :)

Lookit fellows: If TiniBikini changes her handle to TiniMonokini or even TiniNokini after going to Saline, that is a personal choice.

Tini: Dont mind these salivating dogs. They dont bite - at least I dont think. And none of them go in August. So have fun.
