3 Michelin stars coming to St. Barths!

I’ve been there also a few times. We were in Paris the week Robuchon died. I remember walking by in the morning to go to the bakery and seeing a pile of flowers laid in front of the door and wondering what that was about. Heard later that afternoon what had happened. Very nice restaurant but it’s not 3 stars. Actually a bit of a mini chain. There was one in NYC I recall. Also Vegas and some other places. Will be an interesting add to the dining scene but I wouldn’t be in a rush to go there as I don’t expect it to be that different than the ones I’ve already been to. Kind of like Nobu to me.

The "L'Atelier" brand of Joel Robuchon restaurants are not the same as the original Paul Robuchon in Paris. They were designed as baby bistros to offer a more relaxed and less expensive dining experience from big name/celebrity chefs. The last time we dined at the L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon a few years ago we spent under 300 euros and I was told dining at the original Joel Robuchon (before it closed) would be upward of 700 euros.

That being said, the meal was exquisite and the L'Atelier chain has collected Michelin stars of their own.

you mean Joel not Paul?

the issue of course is that once the chef is deceased and there are 20+ outlets all over the world, it's not at all the same experience as dining in the chef's lair with the star in the kitchen....

100% agree. We had an opportunity to dine at Joel Robuchon twice (not to be confused with L'Atelier), and it was without question the best meal I've ever had in my life. There wasn't a single part of the experience (service, atmosphere, presentation, quality, etc.) that I could have made any criticisms about. Then again, for the price tag accompanying the meal, it had better be perfection! :)

And I thought franchises weren’t suppose to be allowed pop there head up on the island, what’s next, McDonald’s and a four seasons hotel :sad1:

Many of island hotels are in hotel collections. And several restaurants have liked named “sister” establishments in other locales. Then there are luxury retail stores.

I made a point of dining at either the restaurant or L’Atelier whenever I was in Las Vegas, and enjoyed both very much. Las Vegas was always a business trip, so I was traveling alone. I couldn’t bring home dinner or the experience, but I always brought home a box of their chocolates, which were always well received.
