I subscribe to PALMER! So much fun! (I half grew up in that area and still have family there so Michael Gross's writing is great!)

Very much looking forward to this. On our most recent trip I found myself wanting to dig into the island's history a bit more, this should be a decent place to start.

Gay Talese is mentioned, I'm wondering how many on the forum know that name ? I do since I spent my summers in Ocean City, NJ, with my grandmother. Gay's dad was a tailor, & his mom opened a ladies fine clothing section within their shop on Asbury Avenue. Also ordering the book!

I'm looking forward to reading Treasured Island. Yes- Gay Talese is towering figure in literary journalism. His story "Frank Sinatra Has a Cold" is still taught in journalism school. Very interesting that you have a connection.

Gay Talese was famous, at least in the press and society pages.
