Pointe Milou

My wife and I are deciding on a villa. We've been looking at a few places in Pointe Milou. We didn't go to this area of the island the last time we were there. I love the island, however, I have to admit, some of the roads gave me some anxiety the last time we were there. Can anyone tell me what the drive is like to Pointe Milou from Lorient? We got as far as Jo Jo Burger the last time we were there. The places we're looking at are very close to Hotel Christopher. Thanks for any info/ photos.

I've not stayed on Pointe Milou but have driven there many times. From Jo Jo's you just keep going through Lorient, head up a hill and back over a bit and turn left. The left turn if I recall is a bit crazy (utilize the mirrors on the road) After that I think it is a pretty straight forward drive and follows a loop. Not sure what it is like at night, but seems pretty straight forward to me. I seem to recall that the loop only goes one way with Christopher at the end of it but I might be wrong.

The anxiety driving there does get better with each visit... according to my husband at least... lol.. I am happy to remain a passenger.. :D

I'm with TPunch on remaining a happy passenger. Having said that, we stayed in Point Milou and the drive was fine. He did use the mirrors and caution but we never had a problem. Great places to walk/explore. We really liked the area when we stayed there 5 years back but have made the drive each year since to check out new construction.

Personally, I'd be more concerned about the breezes than the drive staying on Pointe Milou. The breezes range from exfoliating to none-at-all depending on whether you're on the windward or leeward side of the cape. The Hotel Christopher side seems very still and mosquito-y to me, though I've never stayed there. I'm sure these meteorological effects vary with exact location...

Yes I have been told that the Hotel Christopher area can been very hot and buggy...especially in the warmer months.

We stayed at one of the villas right above the hotel once and while the views are fantastic, the lack of breeze was an issue.

My parents rented Villa Zen for many years and we were fortunate enough to stay with them from time to time. This villa is on top of the hill and gets breezes on the east side of the house and west side of the house is more calm. You can see the airport in the distance and great sunsets. The pool is very nice too. The villa has been updated as of last year. My parents are staying in the Lurin area this year but if they weren't they would be back at Zen. I would usually do a morning walk from Zen to Christopher and back, then jump in the pool. This villa is about 100 yards from Le Ti but there is hardly any noise.

Don't worry about the driving, you'll get the hang of it.

Point Milou (eastern side) is my favorite. Good breezes keeps the bugs away, great views to watch boat traffic. The driving isn't too bad. You get used to it.

The driving around really helps the comfort level. I like day trips to scout out restaurants and hotels we may visit when it is dark. All part of the fun and discovery aspect of being in a new locale.

try villa DAY in Pointe Milou, its centrally located, not too windy or too still.. great views, pool, small gym, etc

You do not have to drive on that section of road to get to the Christopher. There is a turn off to the right just after you enter Pt Milou that will take you down to the hotel.

You don't have to drive along that cliff if you don't want to. The road splits before Le Ti and you can take the western road all the way down to the Christopher. The villa I was refering to you will be on that road but would stop quite a ways before driving on that cliff road.

I loved sitting on that rock and cooling off after a long walk.

Great rock to climb on your big 5-0, too!

We stayed in Pointe Milou for many years. It is a great area, with amazing views as others have said. The drive isn't difficult at all. You can jog or walk all around there with little traffic. I second Ellen's recommendation of DAY. Another lovely villa next to DAY is La Fregate---WV FRE in the WIMCO listings. Beautifully appointed, it is high enough not to have the mosquito issues that villas closer to Christopher may have and yet it is on the less windy side of Pt. Milou. CEO (where we stayed) is another fantastic villa. You'll enjoy Pt. Milou and it is nice to experience different parts of the island.

We stayed at MOZ (got there 1 year + 2 days ago but who's counting?), a villa that's on the end PM. We came and went throughout our trip and it was never an issue. Those blitzing around the island while doubled-up on small motorcycles have risks, but simply driving in a car to and around Pt Milou is easy.
