What were you doing during Covid?

A curious “photo memory” popped-up today — September 2020. Perhaps Microsoft is looking at my “Calendar!”

Covid on SBH was quiet, hot, & empty! Daily temperatures typically 88 - 90 F . . . heavy rain showers almost every night. Enough places open for food, necessary beverages, & fine dining that I comfortably celebrated my “birthday month.” September 2026 looks like it’ll be a merry repeat, sans pandemic. And, happily . . . I’m still here!

We were there in Feb 2020 just before everything shut down
So were we. We got out 7 days before the restrictions went in place. It was a surreal two weeks, starting with Carnival and then watching the cases spread across the US on the news. For good measure, I caught covid waiting in that cesspool SXM airport. Seven days flat on my back sweating through three pillows a night. One more reason I will never fly through SXM again, along with the dysfunctional Winair service.

We returned to SBH in April 2021, as soon as travel became possible again under the COVID-19 testing requirements. It was the first opportunity we had to return to our beloved island, and getting there involved navigating many challenges and changing regulations.

Despite all the hoops we had to jump through, we were fortunate to spend an entire month on the island. It was an incredible experience during such an uncertain time, and we were deeply grateful for the opportunity.

Those were certainly crazy times, but the peace, beauty, and sense of normalcy we found on SBH made the trip especially meaningful and memorable.
