Just back to reality!
Since I posted from the island a fair amount over the past weeks, will try to keep this brief--mostly to fill in places not previously mentioned.
Weather was beautiful, very breezy and not much rain, a few passing showers day and night. Temperatures seasonal though rose toward end of June, visibility varied day to day, some very clear, some very hazy. Sargassum continued to affect mainly south beaches—as posted Saline was pretty covered though Gouverneur more variable. Flamands beautiful the day we visited and Colombier gorgeous. Walked both sides of St Jean most mornings and it was clear except for the few days a fair amount gathered by the airport. Lorient remained clear as well except for the same few days when some bands came in. Surf varied at Lorient though the day I left earlier this week waves were some of the biggest I’ve seen. Sadly no surfers were up and out that early! Overall a blissfully quiet June.
Cocktails:
Aside from previously mentioned Barry and Pearl, we visited:
Remy Bar/Eden Rock
Always beautiful and often entertaining…sat at the bar, enjoyed the view and watched/listened.
Yes, often surrounding patrons want you to hear ; ) Never disappoints!
Tamarin
Stopped for drinks before dinner at L’Esprit, the sight and sounds of the garden never get old.
We find it best to go early when it’s peaceful.
Lunches:
As posted, loved lunch at Nyama, dined twice at both Grain de Sel and Amnios and look forward to returning to all next trip.
Hotel Christopher
Beautiful view, delicious food, always a favorite for lunch.
We also went to their “Cinema Club” having been before, a fun event. Unfortunately a passing storm came with 10 minutes left in the film! Mgr said it was the first time it had rained. All okay, still very much enjoyed, ran for cover and stayed for dinner ; )
The last film of the season is this Wednesday. It’s a great evening—sunset cocktails and a movie under the stars.
Ti Corail
Written about many times, another favorite.
Camille is keeping all running smoothly. Love the view, love the food.
Hot from the fryer acras, can’t resist quinoa salad with shrimp and passion vinaigrette if on the menu, braised chicken with coconut rice excellent, shared coconut blanc mange and shots of rum…all delicious.
Dinners:
As mentioned: enjoyed Mapo and La Licorne very much and will return.
L’Esprit
We dined just before they closed for holiday.
Nothing to say that hasn’t already been said. Excellent every time. In my opinion, it's the best food on the island; it also uniquely speaks, in a forward-looking way, to the St Barth so many of us remember. An island treasure.
Nyama
Forever a favorite. Tuti and Clement epitomize the concept of “how a restaurant makes you feel adds immeasurably to the experience.”
Best people, welcoming warm service, delicious food.

La Casina
A lively spot for casual Italian food that's kind to the wallet—for St Barth.
Is it the best Italian? Not necessarily but it can be quite good, especially when you want an easy fun night out.

A local friend invited me for dinner and curiosity got the best of me ; )
While Mexican is not my first cuisine choice (esp on St Barth) I was very interested in seeing how the space had been transformed. We had dined upstairs when Robuchon first opened but had not been back. It has been beautifully redone, very open and airy. The space feels reminiscent of the Ocean Club--a lot of wood, very sleek but cozy with beautiful harbor views. There is a pretty bar at the back of the room and a nook or two for drinks or backgammon on the sides. The service was very attentive, we didn't order much: shared guacamole, a ceviche, some tacos and a tres leche dessert. Overall a very nice meal and lovely space. I now understand the reviews I have heard. Friends from church said they recently loved it and friends there now dined last night and had a great time. On the way out the hostess kindly let us peek into the downstairs lounge which is very clubby with sofas and dim lighting, apparently open 10pm-2am.
Now if someone would kindly re-open the bakery/tea room space?!
Hotel Toiny
While we love the beach club, the hotel is stunning at night for cocktails outside and a table by the pool. We last dined when they first introduced the “small plates” dinner menu. It was quite good but initial portions were extremely small. Happy to report we had a great meal and portions, while still small, improved. One of our best meals of the trip.
And what a trip it was! Always grateful for time on beautiful St Barth, especially with family and special friends.
