We had the most amazing lunch at the new Grain de Sel in Saline the other day - a great new addition to the dining scene on St-Barth! Everyone at our table agreed that every dish was fresh, flavorful and unique. The restaurant looks great and the location can't be beat for a quick swim at Saline either before or after lunch. We can't wait to come back! Thank you, Grain de Sel! Highly recommended.

Great to have your review, Tiffany! Looking like a refreshing, healthy luncheon!

This really bums me out, sweet potatoes, coconut and celery have no place at my diner table. I was eagerly anticipating the return of some creole food.

Le nouveau GdS is not a remake of le vieux GdS. Much refreshed old space. Infinitely better service and higher level of ambition for cuisine.
I would say there are créole influences.
Give it a whirl.
Yes . . . Margaux, the new proprietor, told me at the opening that she intended to maintain Créole flavors & traditional dishes. I suspect that items are readily available to be prepared, if one asks . . . even if not on the menu.

Thank you so much for these pictures! It is helping me try and forget how cold we have been the past 2 weeks!!!! The Tuna Tartare with Mango Sorbet and Coconut Milk looks delicious!! Hope it is on the menu this Spring when we are there.

Celery? No celery here.

Why are - you - such a bummer? You should give it a try first. Creole food is always fresh fish first and foremost, which GdS has in abundance--- and obviously there were many other things on the menu that I did not post here. I will tell you that every dish was unique in flavor and delicious. And, they also are carrying on the tradition of rhum vanille after the meal - a SBH tradition that is dying. So, in my book - a local place with fresh ingredients, delicious preperation, friendly service and reasonable prices is a place that I welcome and will support.

Well, I am pretty sure those ingredients would be considered an integral part of créole food around the Caribbean: for example,

We'll be there in a week and will report back. The old GdS was always a must twice for me. Maybe they will surprise with some crawfish etouffee.

When you are referring to "créole" food, it seems like you might be confusing Louisiana based créole (crawfish) and Caribbean créole, which has different local ingredients. They really have very little to do with one another at this point, so that is where your references to créole might be the "Louisiana style". Caribbean créole food, if you are speaking of the French créole, is referencing the food you might find in Guadeloupe and Martinique, Les Saintes de Guadeloupe (was there 2 weeks ago), where the most awarded créole cooks have traditionally been from Guadeloupe. Having spent significant time and having written on créole dialectology on Guadeloupe, I hope you will give a try to the more local island versions and hope you will enjoy the fantastic créole food you will find locally!

We ordered accras with sauce chien (I think that’s traditional Caribbean cuisine), ravioli stuffed with lambis (conch very traditional Caribbean specialty), and Oeil de Boeuf (blue water snapper from local waters).
Don’t think crawdads likely on menu 🧐

that sounds perfect for me. The accras at GdS and La Langouste with Sauce Chin are both delightful.

Secret: the first time I went to some islands in the Caribbean, I ordered curried lambi 5 out of 7 nights😋😋😋! Never met a crawdad I didn’t like, but did not meet any in the Caribbean..however, I have devastated a Caribbean spiny lobster or 2 (at a time)..in my time😂.

We lunched at GDS yesterday, “amazing” might not do it justice. We had Accras (4th sampling this trip and these were the best), ravioli stuffed with goat, wahoo and beef filet with peppercorns and wine sauce. Simply fantastic, service was A plus, and the update looks great, with a new toilet. Gds should not be missed.

We enjoyed dinner at GDS on February 12-great food, service, and ambience. Seafood focused-I enjoyed mahi rillettes and papaya salad and my husband enjoyed a peche locale with ginger buerre blanc and coconut rice. Easy parking made my husband especially happy. GDS will definitely be on our rotation. We highly recommend.

I'm torn on if we do Grain de Sel for lunch or dinner on our upcoming trip. Would there be any reasons to choose one over the other? Is it the same menu for both?

Good morning. For those that have been for lunch, did you make reservations? Starting to trip plan :) Thank you
