Lucali pizza

Agreed. "signature plain pie"... is a Margherita (tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil). 45 euro?
I think we can agree there are a number of establishments on Saint-Barth which are priced to exclude. L'Isola comes to mind as one : 42 euros for a small serving of cacio e pepe ?! Personally, I'm ok with that if the cuisine is excellent and the vibe is fun and the crowd chic.
YMMV, and there's always Les Bananiers for the price conscious pizza crowd.

D’accord!!

I think there is a difference between being "price conscious" and being a chump. There is also a difference between paying a high price for excellent cuisine and paying 76€ for a cheese calzone. I'll let you all decide for yourselves under which category these examples fall.

Opinions will vary, of course.

I hardly know what to say, except that — very honestly — I’m finding the topic is becoming boring. How many times can shock be meaningfully expressed about 76E calzone? I hope the place does well . . . if it does, the concept will be proved in its realization. If it fails, then I’m confident that the St. Tropez investors will move on to another concept. That is, it’s my impression that they’re here to stay for a while . . . and “deep pockets” contemplate losses.

Well, there is always the scroll button. :geek:

The real issue is the decline of the charm and soul of St Barth to corporatized interests. I use the calzone as an example of the corporate greed fleecing people to line the pockets of people off-island who are using St Barth as their piggy bank and not for the betterment of the island and the local population. I have seen this example on so many Caribbean islands over the years, and it's a shame to see it happening here.

I get it, my point is made, or over-made I guess. Scrolling on...!

Completely agree.
Bowing to the altar of mainland-funded venues (no matter the price) encourages the trend.

I guess that I can’t “scroll” . . . for concern that I can learn something in what I would miss in reading! Meanwhile, I bemoan the dynamic that you describe --
corporate greed fleecing people to line the pockets of people off-island who are using St Barth as their piggy bank and not for the betterment of the island
. . . but I also see that there’s always — at least — two sides to every story. In this regard, I don’t see locals standing up to / resisting being “fleeced.” I’m also, as age slows the indignation that I used to passionately find in many topics, most thoughtful about close-to-home issues . . . such as who will take out the garbage tonight!

Dear Dennis, you're right. If no one is protesting in the streets. They/we just don't go anymore.
You should chat with employees, self-employees, boutiques owners, villa managers, artisans, long-time locals with or without families, some officials of la Collectivité, ask for their opinion about the current local restaurant scene.
And if they go to restaurants as often -or not at all anymore- as they did before the groups took control.

Believe me . . . i do ”chat” with them. I’ve been part of the island for nearly 50 years. The people you’ve identified are my very good friends & children of my very long time friends. Deceased island leaders have been among my closest friends. (I still have personally meaningful chats with them!)

In very material respects, I have been — and continue to be, IMO — a significant contributor to the island in numerous respects. Nonetheless, I understand your admonition. Please, however, do not underestimate my conversations with, & appreciation of, the island community & points of view.

ok Dennis,
no one, certainly not me, is questioning your involvement or influence here and beyond.
(Even if we didn't see each other for a long time, we've known each other for 25 years or more,
and we've shared a few meals together.)
So let's agree that your opinions and those of your friends on the subject of “restaurants today” differ from mine and those of the locals or visitors I talk with .
It doesn't matter.

Owner chef was here working, Saturday. Busy, but no line out the door, still a few open tables. Lively restaurant with inside and outside seating options . Didn't notice many changes to decor from previous restaurant.

I ordered take out at Lucali, I was hoping for the best as I love, love , love Pizza. even st. barths pizza which is not even close to the good old new york pizza by the slice. 72 euros was charged to me for a large pizza which is enough for 4 persons and 1 tiramisu dessert. the pizza crust was really good, but the cheese pizza is just okay. the tiramisu was barely edible, tasted like flavored jello with a chocolate garnish. I will not return. best pizza on the island is jpizza at corossol and la casina. best tiramisu on the island is la casina and isoletta.

For those who don’t know, the JPizza that Didier mentions was the former pizzaiola at L’Entracte in Gustavia, had his own place out in Petite Cul de Sac (which I could never find) for awhile, and is now located in the former La Saintoise location, one street off of the main road in Corossol.

Thanks for the updates.
Arrive on Friday and couldnt decide between La Casina or Lucali for one evening next week .

Will keep our La Casina res.
