Villa Mon Cheri or Villa Pleasure

Hello,

We are deciding between Mon Cheri in Lurin or Villa Pleasure in Public, any advise really appreciated. Thank you!

What are you looking for in a Villa? I know Mon Cheri . . . it’s very private, all on one floor, lovely gardens, conveniently located to most of the island, & “drop dead gorgeous” views!

Have to chime in on Mon Cheri since we stayed there 2 or 3 times. Then we weren't able to stay since a long term rental was in place...you know who...and we were there before the ack ack began down below.
Loved the location, the view, privacy & the fact that only 1 floor as Dennis said, no steps to navigate, and that so close to Gouverneur & Gustavia, and of course Santa Fe during the years it anchored the corner.
My only negative was that the bathrooms were not ensuite...middle of nite seeing a red light in kitchen scared me...think on coffee maker or maybe stove? Perhaps there was a reno done somehow to make the baths ensuite ?
Not familiar with Villa Pleasure, going there now to see.

PS to the above after looking at both villas...Mon Cheri all new furniture since there, vast improvement ! Baths look the same & were quite nice, yet not en suite. Villa Pleasure, no comparison, that doesn't mean I like it better than Mon Cheri, totally different in many ways. So apples & oranges. Many factors to consider for making your decision.

Thank you cec1 and NancySC. Mon cheri's recent pics show that the greenery is blocking the view. Is that accurate? NancySC how is that Public area where Villa Pleasure is located? Do you think it has changed names?

I don't know the answer to your question about the greenery since it has been maybe 12 to 15 years since we stayed at Mon Cheri, after us it became a long term rental so they would know more than I do. I do remember being able to see down the hillside & beyond to ocean when we were there, but later on during the long term rental, I think there was construction below, you would need to ask who you plan to rent from if the further view is blocked by a new villa or maybe more & what you can see beyond from the terrace. I do remember seeing ocean, again this was not recently. At nite with our vanilla rum after dinner on the terrace (or after we'd been to one of the restaurants we favored during our many years of villa rentals on SBH), we could see lights moving in the distance which we discovered were from cruise ships killing time & circling back & forth before their next port. One nite there was what I'd call a party boat passing by with everyone on board singing & having great fun. And on clear nites we could see lights on Saba as well as 2 other islands, just don't recall which ones. Also the hot tub didn't exist on terrace when we rented.
Recommend you do ask the rental agency or whoever for more recent pix & what seen on a property visit. But, in tropics, it rains, things grow! When I worked at a hotel on St Croix for a year longer ago, it rained every morning as I headed to work, residents thankful the cisterns were filling!
Please post what you decide, whether apples or oranges or maybe a grapefruit?

The long distance view is of the islands of SABA, Eustatia, St Kitts and Nevis.

Bucket week the boats come into view right below the pool…magnificent watching them play and get into position for the starting horn blast.
.
The greenery between the pool and hillside provides perches for many birds and butterflies. It could be high enough to block a view while swimming. I think you still get the view from chairs and lounges on the pool deck,

But as noted, foliage grows!

The deck is great for viewing the night sky and sunsets and rainbows.

I really loved Phil and my time spent at Mon Cheri.

Thank you amyb. Its very hard to decide as I cannot find any other info on the other villa I am deciding between, Villa Pleasure in Public. You cant always tell by pictures.

“Living Area” of Villa Pleasure mentions a ceiling fan, but doesn’t say anything about AC. Because it faces West, it will get full afternoon sun & likely will be quite warm. I’d recommend checking on availability of air conditioning — which rooms.

Did you ever see any green flashes from MC? we didn't, but I saw one from a Windstar ship a few years ago & was so excited to see one after so many years of visiting Caribbean & Bahamian islands...it was about time ! and yesterday in our backyard, a bald eagle landed on a tree branch, 2nd one of those in 20 yrs in SC.

Villa Pleasure has air conditioning in all 3-bedrooms but not Living Room. Last time I was there was only French Television. However, the view and privacy are quite lovely.

I was staying at the Normandie, and dined with you and Phil at L'Esprit the day you signed your long term lease. It was such a happy evening.

Any and Phil,

Rich and I aspire to the same! In the meantime, we make time to make memories together!! You have been an inspiration of a life well lived…..cheers to many more years.

Amy & Phil are paradigms for life! Quality standards in young, hard-working, family-rearing years (three Eagle Scouts!) . . . and models of transition in retirement. In years of friendship, I learned much from them (& had great times along the way!). It’s also a pleasure that our friendship — albeit at a distance — continues with pleasure.

Thank you, you are correct, there is only ac in bedrooms.
