Water Supply Issue

This won’t impact the villas which use cisterns as their water supply. At some point it will impact those who use “city water”.

The Official Collectivité of Saint-Barthélemy and SAUR ST BARTH inform the population that a major break has occurred in the SAUR main water supply pipeline leaving the SIDEM desalination plant. This pipeline directly feeds the Colombier reservoir, which then supplies the entire island with drinking water.

Our SAUR technical teams are mobilized and working to complete the repair as quickly as possible. Work is currently underway. However, given the complexity of the operation, no specific timeframe for restoring water supply can be announced at this stage. A return to normal is unfortunately not expected for several days.

We thank you for your understanding and will keep you informed of any developments in the situation.

Monday 5/26 update:

SAUR ST BARTH informs the public that the break in the main pipeline leaving the SIDEM desalination plant was repaired yesterday by our technical teams. Concrete was poured to secure the structure, but drying time is required before the water supply can be restored and the repair's watertightness checked.

Heavy rains are complicating this crucial phase. Weather permitting, we plan to refill the Colombier reservoir this morning. This reservoir serves the entire island.

However, we draw your attention to the fact that the gradual filling of the reservoirs and the distribution network will require several days before a complete return to normal in all homes.

We thank you for your patience and understanding, and we remain committed to ensuring a speedy restoration.

Who has a photo of the Columbier Reservoir? It must be a monster. But….. I can’t picture it? I must have seen it. Where???

Saint-Barth needs a bunch of hurricane proof water towers
I would be more concerned with the seawater intake than water towers. Too much sand and other debris being sucked in messes up the desalinization plant. They added a caisson a few years back to protect the intake and help with some of that, but a hurricane really stirs things up.
