Overnighting in Miami

Our trip down Wednesday was very stressful. We overnighted in Miami airport hoping to catch 8:30 American flight to San Juan to catch 2:30 over giving us a nice connection cushion. After our plane stopped while taxiing, had to wait 45 minutes to find another gate to jump start a computer glitch, then waiting 45 minutes to fix computer, then waiting to refill gas…we finally arrived in San Juan 2 1/2 hours late and had to wait for gate. Luckily we had Tradewind rep meeting us and we rushed through a very busy airport to Tradewind lounge. This same type scenario happened to us last year. With what was supposed to be a happy day to our happy place it ended up to be stressful. Next time we will overnight in San Juan. Heads up for anyone considering this.

Overnighting in SJ (or specifically at SJU hotel) is an interesting option for folks who don't have direct flights to SJU or SXM from their home airport.

We used to overnight in SJ also. Thought Miami would be easier and hotel a bit nicer and they park our car in their lot.
Never again.

Much less anxiety overnighting in San Juan and arriving already in vacation mode at SBH

Sorry for your travel troubles on Wednesday. You honestly just never know what you're going to get travel-wise on any given day. It's a real crap shoot anymore. Very frustrating and not a fun way to kick of your St. Barths vacation.

The Ritz Carlton in San Juan is supposed to reopen this year, but there are ongoing lawsuits. It’s not everyone’s choice, but it can make for a very nice overnight in either direction between SJU and SBH. There was a time when it was a great spot to enjoy lunch (or a little casino action) between an early flight from SBH and a later flight back to the mainland.

Me, I went for the popovers, 😂.
