Hamptons in October

Hi all,
I’ve never been to the Hamptons, but would love to visit at least once. ( I love watching Ina Garten)

We are able to squeeze in a short trip the first week of October.
is this a good time to go with respect to less crowds and which town should we base ourselves in?
We will have a vehicle.

Thank you.

October will be after the crowds have left for the summer. Will be much quieter. Weather will still be nice and the water if you’re so inclined still swimmable. My opinion is that September and October are the best times to be at the beach as the weather is good and there are far fewer people. Look between Southampton and Amagansett. If you are looking for a walkable town area, Sag Harbor.

I agree with Mike's post above. Our favorite time to visit Long island. Roadside produce still a plenty...a great time to source your fall pumpkins.

Easier to get around as traffic is down. Note since scary covid days the local populations swelled...summer homes became year round homes. Montauk and Greenpoint are also walkable and charming East End destinations.

Thank you.
Have narrowed down to Sag Harbor and Southampton.
Will pick up car at LGA and drive down.

You will pick up your car and drive "out". ;) Have a great time. It's the best time to go. Note there is a very interesting film festival (Hamptons Film Festival) that happens during that time period in East Hampton, if that is something that interests you. You can google it for details. Easy drive at that time of year from either Southampton or Sag Harbor.

October is perfect for the Hamptons! The weather's cooler and it's way less crowded than in summer. I’d recommend staying in East Hampton or Southampton—they're both charming and close to everything. If you have time, definitely check out some of the local farms and the beaches.

An ideal time to head east on Long Island. We enjoyed the fall visits and visiting farm stands to bring home produce and PUMPKINS WITH STEMS for the boys. Lots of sales and of course a visit to the Amagansett wine shop.it gets even more amazing as the foliage changes and dining options are more readily available.

Keep having fun.

If you end up on the North Fork for a day:

There are a host of great North Fork vineyards, one of our favorite close to home getaways. In Bridgehampton there's Channing Daughters, a favorite (we belong to their wine club) growing many unusual varieties to make their wine. Also a beautiful location.
