Lunch with Manu

Technically "off-island", but not in our hearts. Just returned from ten days in the Côte d"Azur, including one driving the area west of Nice. For lunch we stopped at Manu's restaurant in Châteauneuf-Grasse. Small inside, but a lively terrace with a nice breeze across the street. He seems quite happy serving up lunch for locals from his daily "slate", hence the name - L'ardoise. He said that many of his dishes are derived from his time at Santa Fé. The Beef Tartare I had included the same Caribbean spice he used in SBH. No tomato tarte, but hints he might introduce it soon. The big surprise was the check was accompanied with homemade vanilla rum shots.

Thanks so much for posting. We treasure many memorable conversations with him in years past and often wonder how he is doing. The menu looks delicious, and vanilla rum must have been icing on the cake!!

I don’t recall if I ever posted it, but we had lunch with Manu, Marisol, and Nadine when we were on SBH last month. We’re all now at different places in our lives, but it was wonderful to share a meal and some time together.

What is Nadine up to these days?
