Well, our last dîner was the Sand Bar tonight and the reports of its “food demise” were greatly exaggerated…it was as great as always and I just love every minute of being there. It is lively with very sweet and competent servers, with lovely greetings throughout the bar and restaurant. It was full of young people, very dressed up and having a nice time. The cocktail menu is a work of art and the drinks are very clever and unexpected, and I rarely even have a cocktail. Mine was a MaiTai and very different but very intriguing..and was about 4 drinks worth. My able assistant helped out. He said this was the least expensive dinner we had on the island, not to mention Sunday at Nikki, but a girl’s gotta have her Laurent Perrier rosé Champagne..wouldn’t be Nikki without it
. No wine tonight but DD was having a great time window shopping the first growths.
My dinner was exactly what I was hoping for..2 thick slices of foie gras with lovely brioche but I couldn’t even finish the whole thing, and a super interesting Mahi Mahi, coated in pumpkin seeds and a sauce of passionfruit and fish stock with chunks of butternut squash. I love clever chefs! DD had a nice salad with avocado and a bunch of stuff but I was very busy with my “tartineage” of my foie gras. (Neologism..not really français, but it works for me..). DD had lobster ravioli and it was pretty empty when I glanced in his bowl, so he really liked it! (J-C has my
when it comes to lobster ravioli and I could never cheat on him…
)
Could not do dessert but I was intrigued and the crêpe suzette was very showy at the table down the way. They gave us the most fabulous corner table! The view was gorgeous and upon leaving, we had a nice photo on what I call “the photo bench” with the new ER 70 sign…since we are all the same age, it was cool for sure!
The little parting tartelette was a tiny square of pistachio with a touch of raspberry and gold leaf..too bad they didn’t put a giant one of those on the dessert menu!
