Best rental agency?

As we continue to search for the perfect villa (most fun part of the planning stage!), I wonder which one is everyone’s preferred villa agency on the island and why? Many villas are represented by several agencies so we can choose who we go with. I’ve read great things about Eden Rock villa rentals and also read some warnings about agencies without physical representation on the island (St Barts Blue?). Any opinions on Ici et La, St Barth Properties…?
Merci bien!

We’ve been extremely happy with Eden Rock. We’ve rented 6 villas through them thus far (2 upcoming) and the service has been excellent. Can’t speak about other rental companies - we’ve only rented through them. Prior to children we would stay at hotels. Love renting through Eden Rock and having the experience of both hotel and villa.

I will offer up to this excellent list of rental agencies WIMCO, the folks who sponsor our active and widely read SBHONLINE forum.

We have used WIMCO for nearly 20 years and have been very happy with the staff on- island (by the airport) and stateside in RI

I think the best rental agency is the one that lists the villa you want. And we have always preferred on island agencies. We’ve generally steered away from St. Barth Properties because they charge a fee for using a credit card. Not a deal breaker but at this point they’re the only agency still doing so, which irks me.
We love Corcoran (formally Happy Villas), Marla, and WIMCO. It should be noted that last trip WIMCO comped us a Gourmet Festival meal at Le Toiny. Much appreciated. We’ll definitely use them again.

Such a provocative question!!!

For my two cents (in part from the point of view of a villa owner who works with many agencies):
1. WIMCO is exceptional . . . truly marvelous! When it proposes guests to us, they have been well vetted, & WIMCO provides exceptional “touch” support to its clients . . . interfacing with us, as villa owners, as needed — but rarely needing to do so. Most villa guest inquiries are not villa specific, but are directed to the SBH experience, & WIMCO is immediately responsive.
2. Sibarth . . . Wendy & I have had a relationship with this iconic agency since 1978 when we first visited the island. Its founders no longer are engaged in the company, but eldest son Ashley & his wife have stepped into the role of agency hosts to SBH visitors, first-time & repeat, Much like WIMCO, with which there formerly was a relationship, there’s high “touch” contact with clients. I would say, however, without disrespect, that WIMCO offers a broader price-range of offerings.
3. St. Barth Properties . . . less likely than WIMCO to offer lower-price rental villas. The reputation, I believe, is clearly one of great customer service & allure in accommodations. I think that the agency’s long time owners may have recently sold the company . . . perhaps only taking in a partner? Nonetheless, the company’s sterling reputation for client satisfaction likely will be watched in the new season.
4. My Villa In St-Barth . . . my relationship here only has developed in the last 12 - 18 months (after 18 years!), & it’s a really positive one — for the same aforementioned reasons that folks have liked with respect to other agencies. The “My Villa” agency, in my experience, offers a broad range of villa rental options . . . and clients at CEC who have rented though My Villa In St-Barth seem to have been “happy campers” . . . and were guests that we would be happy to see on future visits.
5. Happy Villa . . . only a few rentals here for CEC. Not exactly sure why — likely because of the enormous range of options, & “HV” may focus on a different rental profile. Nonetheless, I mention the agency because I have a lot of respect for its owner / manager & staff. Like the other agencies for which I have admiration, these folks do a very credible job of client service.
6. Finally . . . commentary on Eden Rock Villas. I have great admiration here. Its client profile is, I believe, one that attracts visitors outside of an inventory of smaller, traditional-style villas, such as CEC. But, knowing some of its clients & folks that are part of the organization, I understand that high service & villa style go with premium pricing.

Others — notably WIMCO —have comparable offerings, but Eden Rock Villas seems to enjoy success in capturing, for a very premium price, a sybaritic audience.

That’s a brief download of opinion. If you’re interested in more, let’s meet for sunset cocktails some evening at Santa Fe, I’ll be there in the next two weeks. I’ll even “buy,”

The only agency we used in the past was WIMCO and I found them to be very good both before and after coming to the Island. We didn't use the concierge service much but it was helpful when we did.

One point to make is look at the fees you are charged as part of the selection process. I believe Happy Villas charges much less than everyone else and I believe Eden Rock charges a little more (at least they did years back when I spoke with them). There were some other perks with ER that may have offset the addt'l fee. Perhaps both the higher fee and perks have both gone away and they are now comparable?

Please someone correct me if I am wrong on my second paragraph as I don't want to give out incorrect info

Eden Rock villas may charge more or less on the adminstrative fees, but the prime limiter for many is the weekly price. They tend to carry very luxe and large villas in their portfolio.

Jim you are correct about the fees. Eden Rock fees are indeed higher but they come with perks of hotel use and service which justifies the cost for some.

Hi all, thanks everyone for your input! We'll definitely choose an agency with local staff on the ground. Does anyone have experience with the breakfast services some of the agencies offer? How does it work, what is included and how was the quality?

WIMCO often offers the first morning breakfast with pastries, bread and juice. Quietly delivered around 6:30 or so. They have a form where you can continue every day with the newspaper of your choice printed on demand.

That sounds amazing - will need to check that out!

When you get your welcome packet from WIMCO there are many options for preordering food, drink and other items. Fill out and send back to enjoy upon arrival!

Wimco is the largest, but their website is so bad that I have never used them. I usually use Happy Villa, which has the best prices and their staff are amazing, but their website is near impossible to view as well, now that it went to Corcoran. St. Barth Properties has the best website, so i usually search their and then go to a cheaper company to book. Eden Roc is way too expensive for the same exact Villa as other companies. I would recommend Happy Villa...

We've always used SiBarth. They have been a great intermediary between the owners and ourselves. Also been great setting up our initial reservations. In the early visits, they were very hands-on and as we've developed a routine, they let us be in charge. Last trip, they picked us up at the airport and dropped us off at the Sunset, while taking our luggage so we didn't have to schlep it around in the Jimny all day until the villa was ready. Next afternoon, while enjoying an Apperol spritz at Pearl Beach, the text message arrives and off to the villa, where our bags are waiting for us.

Been going for over 30 years and started off using Wimco which has been great but have also used Sibarth many times and they are also great… I was also irked by Wimco credit card fee which they finally agreed to waive... Tossup for me as the service from both is great…. We arrive tomorrow for 10 days - Cant wait

Our last 4 trips we have used James and Vincent with Premium Island Vacations and they have been wonderful. Used Wimco once and had a few issues..

We have been using James at Premium Island Vacations for many years now. His connection to Premium IV is evident; always available, quick to respond and always the best advice.
