Road to Camaruche Closure

Someone recently posted a map showing this road closure but I cannot find it now. Is it possible to either repost it or tell me where to look? We are on the island now and it would be very helpful to have. Thank you so much!

I don't have the map, but it's very easy.

If you are in Lorient, heading in direction of Pte. Milou / Marigot Bay / Grand Cul de Sac / etc., the closure begins at the bottom of the hill which is slightly past the cemetery -- immediately after the Lorient fish market. It continues to top of the hill . . . where a road turns to the right to go to Vitet.

If you are in one of the areas mentioned (Pte. Milou / Marigot Bay / Grand Cul de Sac / etc.) and want to go to Lorient, St. Jean, etc., you only can do so by driving to Toiny and along the Grand Fond road.

I believe most of the hill is open for villas along the way up. The hard closure is at the red line in the map above.

Friends (staying in Pt Milou) met us for lunch at Grain de Sel for lunch and it took them 20min, so maybe not too bad, assuming there are no trucks in front of you.

10 minutes longer than without the detour? That has been my experience . . . both today & back in Jan / Feb / Mar when a similar detour was in place.

How is Grain de Sel for a post Saline, right from the beach, still in bathing suits/T-shirts/cover-ups lunch option? I assume no issue but wanted to make sure

No issue . . . however, owner / chef Eddy is pretty rigid about cutting off service at 2 PM. A great, casual place . . . with various Creole-style items (as well as non-Creole).

There were both kinds of groups - street clothes and beach clothes. Our experience, both yesterday and previous years is that the service can get overwhelmed, so early is better than later.

so, Dennis, I guess next April the road/sidewalk/utility fun will continue around the bend and down to your place ?
