Returning to SB

Hello Forum

Happy New Year.

We are returning to SB late January. Do you know what‘s new in terms of restaurants. We are not interested in glamorous and overpriced places. We know that SB is becoming UBER expensive. Thanks G…. that Supermarche U is there. We love Saline Beach and that is the main reason why we keep going to SB for the last 17 years. If you wonder why I wear a mask outside The Tropical Hotel (now defunct) is because it was Carninval time in the island. We had such a good time that day. Bohemian Chic.

Merci

A bientôt

maybe this will be helpful:
New places in Gustavia include Lucali Pizza, which has moved into the former Mi Brasa space; Pablo from St Tropez has taken over the old Joel Robuchon building upstairs and down, while Bar des Pres is in the space vacated by Kinugawa, which is building a new garden-style restaurant in St Jean, across from the old Emeraude Plage site (not on the beach side and not yet open). New last season was Mamo.

Elsewhere on the island, a new version of La Licorne has opened in the garden by the old eponymous nightclub in Lorient, most recently the home to Caribbean Tasty (which is now take-out only over by the gas station in Lorient; Amnios with a community table and set menu concept has opened where Yosushimania used to be in Marigot; Mamma Mia has taken over the previous Koï space in Les Mangliers in St Jean; also in St Jean is a fairly new spot for tapas and drinks primarily called Mapo, in Villa Creole, where Peter McCool was located.

Grain de Sel in Saline has reopened with new management and a renovation to the space; and Les Bananiers has new owners, same pizzaiolo...

WOW! Excellent summation, Ellen!

I’
there was a report that le nouveaux Grain de Sel was renovated and enlarged.
is the new GdS larger than previously ?
I’ve been in the space, though before it re-opened. I didn’t sense any addition to space. Arrangement / spacing of tables appears to have added a few extra seats, but nothing material.

Hello,

Thank. you very @elgreaux for the list of the new restaurants. More of the Italian cuisine on the island. L’isola and L’isoletta have real competition. I like the menu at Lucali Pizza. The xxl piazza at 40 Euro is not too bad. Not sure if two pax can eat it all in one go LOL.

Ellen et al, thank you for the list. As my wife and I will be on island in February, this will be our first trip there with just the 2 of us (since 2004 always with others)…am soliciting suggestions for reasonable Valentines Day dinner venue…one that will not try to offer us a $42K bottle of DP. As an aside, I am delighted to see Les Bananiers has re-opened…had many great lunches there. FYI, we always stay at LV in St Jean, so easy walk down the hill to ER, etc.

Even last year, at NAO, things were getting out of hand…table next to us celebrating a new movie release went crazy on the champagne order…and the effects were as you can imagine. We’ve experienced the Nikki Beach, Guerite, etc. beach party scenes and don’t really need that.

Agreed, we didn’t observe any structural renovations to expand the space, but the upper section to the right upon entering has been reopened. For several years, Chef Eddy had not made use of that area

I would love to see Nikki, Nao boycotted...btw...with Nikki, my son went to lunch and said the sushi sucked...lots of rice and even put cream cheese in the nigari to mask the lack of fish...they may have their Christmas fun...but the rest of the season, let's boycott them...and yes...$42k was true and insane...if I only had the name of the sommelier who did this...my son is still fuming about the disappointment in introducing his future wife to "our island"...and I've been talking it for years...
